From Olhão: Dolphin watching on a boat safari in the Algarve
There is probably no way around the Portuguese Algarve on the southern Atlantic coast among nature observers who love to travel. This topographically diverse holiday-maker's paradise runs from the majestic peaks and gorges in the north over gently undulating, lively green hills to the imposing cliffs and gorgeous sandy beaches in the south. Between the rock formations on the coast there are many picturesque bays, often inaccessible from the countryside and mystical caves. The Algarve in Portugal serves as a natural habitat for native animals rich in species, but is also often home to guests such as a wide variety of migratory birds. In the Atlantic off the coast there are also sea dwellers of all kinds.
With this small ocean safari it is possible to observe dolphins off the Algarve. The 2.5-hour boat tour starts in the harbour of the cosy town of Olhão and takes you through an incomparable lagoon right from the start. The famous Ria Formosa, one of Portugal's 7 natural wonders, separates many of the local towns on the lagoon from the Atlantic and is home to a wide variety of creatures. With the speedboat, which is steered by 2 experienced skippers, you glide over the crystal clear water past small islands directly to the Atlantic Ocean. There begins the wild adventure of dolphin watching between Albufeira and Olhão. In search of the gentle, aesthetic sea mammals, you ride over the waves of the sea as swift as an arrow and let the pure, pleasant and salty sea air blow around your nose.
When you swim in front of the Algarve, the boat stops to observe and take pictures of the dolphins romping in the sea, so that you can immortalise the enchanting sight not only in yourself but also in pictures to always remember this impressive meeting. On the way back, the safari boat stops at a sandy beach in the aforementioned Ria Formosa, so that you can still dive into the beautiful underwater world of the Algarve for swimming and snorkelling (if there is enough time). After the big and impressive dolphins, the delicate, elegant sea horses are waiting to be admired by you. The boat tour in the Algarve to dolphins ends again in Olhão and releases you with enchanting impressions again ashore.
