Detailed description

Discover Lanzarote on the traces of César Manrique

The César Manrique Tour on Lanzarote is a worthwhile excursion, as visitors to the volcanic island will discover the island's cultural treasures. Manrique designed various tourist attractions, which were the main features of the beautiful Canary Island.

The tour of Lanzarote begins with a visit to the "Monumento al Campesino", a monument dedicated to the hard-working rural population by César Manrique. Afterwards, the tour continues along the former island capital Teguise in a northerly direction through the so-called valley of the 1000 palm trees to the next stop, the "Mirador del Río". It offers a spectacular panoramic view: you will see the Chinijo chain of islands (Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Alegranza, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste), situated at an altitude of 470 metres above sea level. Afterwards, you will drive along the Volcán de la Corona, a volcanic pipe about 6 km long in the north of Lanzarote, where you will visit one of the most remarkable caves of the volcanic island. Decide for yourself whether you want to visit the "Jameos del Agua" cave or the "Cueva de los Verdes". The "Jameos del Agua" were transformed by Manrique himself in order to give the visitor an insight into the nature barely touched by man. It is a huge hole, which is the result of a collapse of the roof of a lava tube inside the volcanic tunnel, which formed by eruption of the Corona volcano. This tunnel has a length of 6 km, of which approx. 1.5 km runs under the water surface. This area is home to the unique indigenous crayfish, the so-called blind crayfish, which are only one centimetre long, white and blind.

If you choose the "Cueva de los Verdes" (Green Cave), this is a volcanic tube (total length of 7 km) caused by the eruption of the volcano La Corona and formed about 5000 years ago. This cave was used as a refuge from the corsairs' attacks on the island during the Native American times.

In the works of César Manrique, volcanic nature is omnipresent, as you will experience on your next visit to the beautiful cactus gardens. This cactus garden covers an area of 5000 m2 and about 7200 species of more than 1100 different cacti can be found.

As a crowning glory, visit the César Manrique Foundation, his home and inspiration. The house is perfectly built into the surrounding lava. Here you will find an excerpt from Manrique's artistic work as well as an excerpt of how he lived and worked.

To highlight the cultural highlights included in the price of the César Manrique tour in Lanzarote:

  •     Monument to Monumento al Campesino

  •     Enjoy the view from the Mirador del Rio

  •     Water cave Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes

  •     The beauty of the cactus garden "Jardin de Cactus"

  •     Visit of the Fundación César Manrique (César Manrique Foundation)

(Price does not include: lunch on the way is optional.

Great date

I took my girlfriend because she is a bit of an anorak when it comes to cultural stuff. I knew she’d be up for seeing a more natural side to the island and she was thrilled.

Got to know Lanzarote

This tour went on all day and so we got to see the real Lanzarote and didn’t have to faff around getting lost on the buses with our terrible Spanish.

A cultural treat

This was a convenient way for my wife and I to learn about the culture in Lanzarote without planning lots of mini tours. We didn’t have to struggle with figuring anything out as it all the hard work had been done for us.

Big on art

Me and my best friend love these kinds of tours but this one was extra special because we got to see a side to Lanzarote that we couldn’t have imagined in our wildest dreams. We can’t get enough of the culture in Lanzarote and we are hungry to see the other Canary Islands to see how they compare.

CM tour

A nice tour for CM freaks which combines its work with a tour along the beautiful island.A few little things could be improved...
