The alternation between lush green plains and barren rocky slopes, but also stony areas and overgrown mountain valleys, high plateaus and gorges with winding caves, historic town centres in venerable age and modern forms are aspects that will make you remember your holiday. This canyoning tour takes you to abseil down the waterfall in the gorge of Kourtaliotiko in the mountains near the centre of Crete. Partly corresponded to the description
The sole guide was without question completely knowledgeable, a book author on canyoning, but he was in a hurry from the start. This was reflected in a very good safety briefing and an otherwise rather uncharitable execution that did not meet the expectations raised by the tour description above.The gorge itself is without question worth seeing, but can also be reached safely without abseiling and climbing in flip-flops and swimming costume on asphalt paths downhill - and swimming for a short distance at the end. We met just such tourists on the short way out of the gorge.
We booked as a family of three. The tour we did 10
The tour we did 10 days ago actually took less than 3 hours, including a picnic - less than half the time shown in the description and the following reviews.
The reason given by the guide for the short tour was that normally the groups would be larger and such a private tour would otherwise be more expensive. However, I do not find this in the description text. But following this logic, if you are in a larger group you have to wait 3 hours longer than we did, or if you are in a small group like we were, you pay more for half the tour time. Aha, so we had it better than others.
About the tour:
Once we put on the equipment provided, practised the safety instructions several times, abseiled approx. 20m, stood in the river and marvelled at the waterfall in the gorge, swam approx. 20m (which was great up to this point!), slid 5m down the buttocks, waded approx. 2km through the river in beautiful surroundings, took off the equipment and hiked back to the starting point on the road.
The picnic mentioned above consisted of a pre-packed sandwich and a water bottle at the end - directly at the road - and lasted about 5 minutes in total.

If I had been able to foresee this, I would certainly not have invested around 260 euros for the three of us. In fact, what is on offer is a bit on the borderline of tourist nonsense.
So I can't recommend it at this price. But I do recommend a visit to the Kourtaliotiko gorge - but then rather in swimming trunks and flip-flops!
Entsprach teilweise der Beschreibung
Der alleinige Guide war ohne Frage völlig sachkundig, ein Buchautor über Canyoning, er hatte es allerdings von Beginn an sehr eilig. Dies spiegelte sich in einer sehr guten Sicherheitseinweisung und einer sonst eher lieblosen Durchführung, die nicht die durch die obige Tourbeschreibung geweckten Erwartungen getroffen hat.Die Schlucht selbst ist ohne Frage sehenswert, kann aber auch ohne Abseilen und Klettern in Flip-Flops und Badezeug auf asphaltierten Wegen bergab - und zum Schluss ein kurzes Stück schwimmend - sicher erreicht werden. Uns sind eben solche Touris auf dem kurzen Weg aus der Schlucht heraus entgegen geschwommen.
Wir haben als Familie zu dritt gebucht. Die vor 10
Tagen dann durchgeführte Tour dauerte inklusive Picknick tatsächlich weniger als 3 Stunden - also weniger als halb solange wie in der Beschreibung und den nachfolgenden Bewertungen dargestellt.
Als Grund für die kurze Durchführung wurde vom Guide angegeben, dass normalerweise die Gruppen größer wären und ein derartige private Tour sonst auch teurer sei. Das finde ich im Beschreibungstext allerdings so nicht wieder. Aber dieser Logik folgend hat man dann bei größeren Gruppen also 3 Stunden mehr Wartezeit als wir es hatten oder bezahlt in kleinen Gruppen wie wir es waren sonst für die Hälfte der Tourzeit halt mehr. Aha, wir hatten es also besser als andere.
Zur Tour:
Einmal gestellte Ausrüstung anlegen, mehrfach Sicherheitsanweisungen einüben, einmal ca. 20m Abseilen, im Fluss stehend Wasserfall in der Schlucht bestaunen, einmal ca. 20m Schwimmen (das war bis hierhin top!), einmal 5m auf dem Gesäß rutschen, ca 2km durch den Fluss in schöner Umgebung waten, Ausrüstung ablegen und zurück zum Ausgangspunkt zur Straße wandern.
Das oben angegebene Picknick bestand dann zum Abschluss -direkt an der Straße- aus je einem abgepackten Sandwich sowie einer Wasserflasche und dauerte insgesamt rund 5 Minuten.
Die Fotos bekam ich dann zunächst per Facebook-Downloadlink zur Verfügung gestellt. Ohne unser vorheriges Einverständnis. Ohne notwendiges eigenes Facebook-Konto.
Hätte ich das in der Form ahnen können, ich hätte für uns zu dritt hierfür sicher keine rund 260 EUR investiert. Tatsächlich ist das Angebotene schon etwas über der Grenze zum Touristennepp.
Kann ich also zu diesem Preis nicht weiter empfehlen. Den Besuch der Kourtaliotiko-Schlucht aber sehr wohl - jedoch dann eher in Badehose und Flip-Flops!
The most beautiful gorge in Crete
The Kourtaliotiko Gorge (Κορρταλιώτικο Φαράγγι) is also called Asomatos Gorge (Φαράγγι Ασώματο)). For me, the most spectacular natural attraction in the central part of Crete. Die Kourtaliotiko-Schlucht (Κορρταλιώτικο Φαράγγι) wird auch Asomatos-Schlucht (Φαράγγι Ασώματο)) genannt. Für mich die spektakulärste Naturattraktion im zentralen Teil von Kreta. Die mehr als 6 Stunden dort, waren für mich der schönste Urlaubstag. Danke für dieses preisgünstige Angebot.I love canyoning!
