Insider tips Corfu

The Achilleion Palace in the island's capital, the Moni Paleokastritsa monastery or the Kanoni peninsula: there are many popular sights on Corfu, not forgetting the countless picture-book beaches. From June to September, thousands of tourists flock to the Ionian island, flooding the streets, alleyways and beaches. But if you're longing for a bit of seclusion, Corfu also offers highlights off the beaten track. We introduce you to little-known insider tips on Corfu that make the island even more endearing!

Sleepy villages

The village of Notos on the east coast of Corfu, not far from Pethriti and Boukari, is a charming place that is rarely visited by tourists. The beach is particularly worth seeing, surrounded by palm trees, fruit trees and flowers. After a swim in the crystal-clear water, the small bars on the hill invite you to enjoy the sunset off the coast.

The mountain village of Afionas is also still an insider tip: situated on the bay of Agios Georgios Pagi, this idyllic little village still offers tourists an insight into traditional Greek life. While you walk through the winding alleyways or stop for a bite to eat in a rustic taverna without having to push past groups of travellers, you can enjoy the tranquillity of Greece.

Hidden beaches and bays

Corfu also has some hidden beach gems among its picture-book beaches, such as Paradise Beach. The best way to reach the beach is by boat from Paleokastritsa. Due to its isolated location, only a few tourists and hardly any locals come to this enchanting bay. The other beaches in the area - Rovinia, Limni or Glyko - are also worth a boat trip, for example to explore the amazing underwater world while snorkelling or diving in the turquoise waters.

Picturesque fishing villages

Another insider tip is the picturesque fishing village of Agios Stefanos Sinies - not to be confused with the lively Agios Stefanos in the north-west of the island. The small village may not have a picture-perfect beach, but it will enchant you with its original charm. You can enjoy a traditional meal in the cosy tavernas, watch the hustle and bustle in the harbour - and get a taste of the "real Corfu". The nearby bay is a popular destination for owners of sailing boats and yachts. From here you can sail to the nearby bays of Kassiopi or Kalamaki.
