Cycling through the natural paradise around Orbetello in Tuscany

The Italian city of Orbetello is located in the province of Grosseto, which connects the Monte Argentario peninsula with the Tuscan mainland. This lagoon town is a natural paradise that attracts many visitors all year round. It is particularly attractive for bicycle lovers, as you can cover longer distances on flat ground. From Orbetello you can book two different bicycle tours through Tuscany.

On the one hand you have the possibility to drive through the Tuscan hills to the sunset and after the bike trip you can take part in a typical dinner on an Italian country estate. In the early evening, around 5 p.m., you will meet your tour guide on the farm Le Spighe, choose your bike and cycle towards the medieval village Magliano. This hilly land was once flooded by swamps and is now beautifully covered with olive groves, vineyards, orchards and cereal fields. An ancient Roman stone path among olive trees leads you to the Roman abbey of San Bruzio. The way back takes place through the ghost village San Donato, surrounded by cicada and cricket songs in front of a golden yellow evening sun scenery. Around 8 p.m. you reach the farm Le Spighe, where the lord of the manor Giancarlo awaits you in his organic garden with specialities of the Maremma. You can use the bathroom, shower or go straight to dinner: You will taste the award-winning wines and while he deep-fries his picked vegetables in the garden or prepares a delicious pappardelle with wild boar before your eyes, he will tell you all the secrets of his incredible cuisine.

Or explore the lagoon town of Orbetello by bike between the lagoon and the sea while cycling between the beach of Feniglia and its vast pine forest. A 3-hour relaxing drive along the calm waters of the two Orbetello lagoons and the open sea awaits you. Various bird species nest there and spend their winters: Cormorants, herons, flamingos, ospreys and stilts.

Move quietly through the pine forest of Feniglia on its large, flat cycle path, where the sounds and scents of Mediterranean vegetation prevail. A stop in the pine forest is planned to admire the beach and the breathtaking view of Porto Ercole. Enjoy a refreshing swim before returning to the Etruscan walls of Orbetello, the old Spanish windmill and the historic seaplane base. If you wish, you can have a wonderful lunch with fresh fish after the bike tour, which is caught according to local traditional and sustainable systems.
