For one day we leave the coast of Tenerife behind and take the ferry from Los Cristianos to La Palma. The journey between the two islands is about 84 kilometres long and takes about 2.5 hours. We reach Santa Cruz de La Palma, and stay in the capital right away. During a guided tour through the historic centre we admire the wonderful architecture.
We continue by coach to the southwest into the area affected by the Cumbre Vieja volcano. In the exclusion zone of the Tacande district we can have a look at the volcano. We then drive to Tazacorte and see the youngest lava flows in Spain. Lunch (see menu below) will be served around 14:30 in one of the typical restaurants of the region. After lunch, we will drive up from the port of Tazacorte to a neighbourhood affected by the recent volcanic eruption.
At the last stop - Mirador de Tajuya - you will have the opportunity to look at the last volcano of the Canary Islands, now called Tajogaite, at a safe distance (around 2 kilometres).

Detailed description
Tenerife: La Palma day trip by ferry from Los Cristianos
Taking a day trip from Tenerife to La Palma might be a good way to start falling in love with this small Canary Island, whose existence many would like to keep a secret. La Palma is rightly called the "Isla Bonita" - the biosphere reserve listed by UNESCO combines a variety of landscapes with a mild climate and horizontal rain in a very small area, which you won't find anywhere else. In addition, there is the concentrated beauty between the sea and the volcano and a very pristine, almost untouched natural scenery. Almost 40 percent of the island is forested - making La Palma the greenest of the Canary Islands. Because there was never a big rush or uncontrolled tourism development, the corners of the island still seem authentic today. Locals describe the attitude to life on La Palma as meditative, casual and a little Latin American.
This day trip from Tenerife is professionally organised and offers a wonderful first introduction to the island. We take the ferry from Los Cristianos to La Palma in around 2.5 hours and immediately after arrival we visit the historic centre of the capital Santa Cruz de La Palma. Characteristic for the architecture of the city are the partly magnificent balconies that decorate the house facades.

Customer Reviews Stunning day tour to La Palma from Tenerife South
A day worth remembering
I had firmly resolved to do that:On 22.2.23 I want to do something extraordinary, unforgettable. Create a memory. Visiting an active volcano is something quite special and appropriate for this date. And reality proved me right.
On 3.3.2033 I will come again.
Super interesting trip
You should note that you have about 2.5 hours one way ferry ride. This means that you are only busy with arrival and departure for 5 hours. It's all very simple and easy to find. Tip park along the street, then you save the parking lot at the port. Excursion had great interesting stops like the capital and great view points. The guide Rosi was very nice and explained everything well. The day is too short but you get a good insight into the island. Lunch was quite late at 3:30 p.m. and could have been shorter or even completely despite the great food (specially vegetarian cooked for us). Unfortunately, one passenger was defecting and the rest almost missed the volcano because they had to search forever for the good lady. After that everyone was in a bad mood and it was just stress. The volcano was still smoking and you could see the immense extent of the eruption. It was fascinating how nature takes back what we took from her. It was worth the hardship for that alone.Super interessanter Ausflug
Successful excursion
We booked the volcano tour. We will probably never come so close to an active volcano again. The organization was good, the tour guide was very dedicated, explained a lot and was always available. Unfortunately, the overall time is of course too short to see La Palma, but at least it gave a first impression. Disadvantages: we were there around noon and the sun goes down on the volcano. Even after 2 years of pandemic, some people do not manage to put their mask on properly. Tip: a lot of ash flies at the vantage point for the volcano. It is essential to bring eye protection, jacket and headgear.Gelungener Ausflug
