Detailed description

Fuerteventura: Taking the ferry (water taxi) from Corralejo to Lobos

The island of Lobos is only 20 minutes off the coast of Fuerteventura and is well worth a day trip. The natural landscape of the island is unique. The ferry from Corralejo takes you quickly to the island and the flexible timetable allows you to decide how long you want to stay.

When you arrive on Lobos, you will be greeted by the statue of Josefina Plá, a poet, writer and essayist who was born on Lobos. To the left of the statue are the public toilets and the Visitor Centre, which is happy to answer any questions you may have about what to do on Lobos.

There really is something for everyone on Lobos. From quiet coves for sunbathing to a hike up the mountain 'La Caldera'. If you go climbing, be aware that this is a ZEPA area - a protected area for nesting birds - so quiet and responsible behaviour is required (especially between 15 February and 31 July).

If you want to get close to nature, do not miss the Malpais in the centre of the island. Around 130 different species of birds and plants can be seen here. It takes about 2.5 hours to walk around the island.

There are also plenty of opportunities for water enthusiasts, whether it is snorkelling in the underwater reserve or riding the longest wave in the Canary Islands (La Derecha de Lobos spot). The latter is located on the southwest coast, between La Caldera and El Marrajo.
