Learn about organic farming on Fuerteventura during a guided tour of the family farm. You will meet the farm's donkeys and sheep, learn about the different crops (olive trees, typical fruit trees such as figs and Grant apples, mulberry trees), see how the aloe vera is harvested and visit the oil mill. The tour also takes you through the permaculture area and to the solar panels. Take your first steps in processing the leaf and making a cream at an aloe workshop. Lunch of tapas made with local produce and products from the farm, such as tomatoes with oil, papas arrugadas with mojo, majorero cheese with jams from the farm, gofio 'amasao' (drinks included: water and/or a glass of white Canarian wine).

Guided tour of an aloe and olive farm in Fuerteventura

An authentic experience in Fuerteventura, combining aspects of culture, tradition and agriculture, is this guided tour of an organic farm in the east of the island. The third-generation family farm specialises in olive and aloe vera cultivation, has a permaculture garden and works with respect for nature. The organic farm tour highlights all aspects of local agriculture, and guests can visit the donkeys and sheep, see how olives are processed and watch as the aloe is harvested and a body lotion made from the juice of the leaves.

For lunch, the organic farmers serve a small selection of local produce such as tomatoes, potatoes and the island's typical Majorero cheese. Guests enjoy a glass of Canary Island wine. The farm visit is a very personal experience in a small group and, with a variety of activities, gives an idea of the creativity and courage required to maintain agriculture on the island. The products can be bought directly from the farm shop. If you like, you can relax on the farm's terrace overlooking the volcanic landscape or talk to the operators about permaculture.
