Booking option: Circular walk from Sant Elm to La Trapa monastery

Once we have left Sant Elm behind us, the path begins into the hills that make up a large part of the Mallorcan hinterland. The terrain can vary from rocky paths to wooded sections, making for a varied and exciting hike. Be prepared for some inclines, but the views on offer are well worth the effort. Throughout the hike, you will be rewarded with views of the coast and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. After a few hours of walking, we finally reach the monastery of La Trapa, a remote and peaceful sanctuary. Founded in the 19th century, this monastery offers a fascinating insight into Mallorca's religious history. Take some time to explore the monastery grounds with its chapel and surrounding gardens. The way back to Sant Elm follows the same route, but also offers different perspectives of the landscape. Take your time on the descent, as some sections can be steep and rocky.

Detailed description

The La Trapa in Mallorca: La Trapa hike with an experienced guide

A fascinating history and impressive views of the coastline and the island of Dragonera await you on the hike along La Trapa in Mallorca. Let the experienced guide lead you on beautiful paths and trails far away from civilization along the south-western coast of the Serra de Tramuntana and experience the true beauty of Mallorca with your own eyes. The moderately difficult La Trapa hike requires a certain amount of stamina and good mobility, as you have to climb a small part over a few rocks - but you will experience a breathtaking view of Dragonera and immerse yourself in a piece of history from Mallorca on the La Trapa.

The former Trappist monastery La Trapa Mallorca was founded in 1810 by Trappist monks who escaped the French Revolution and erected a number of buildings and a water system on the remote and incredibly beautiful coastline to live autonomously. Learn more about the history of the fascinating monks from your hiking guide and relax in the beautiful nature during the La Trapa hike. The view of Dragonera Island is nowhere as beautiful as on the La Trapa Mallorca, because on the hike you can also see the protected island with its imposing cliffs from the northeastern side.

The La Trapa hike is generally possible all year round (in July and August on request) and leads as far as possible along easily accessible paths. In some places you need to be sure-footed. With good physical fitness you will have little trouble with the ascents and descents of this medium Mallorca hiking tour. The descent takes us over 650 metres to Sant Elm. In the small coastal village you have the possibility to refresh yourself in the sea after the La-Trapa-Route and to have a stop for refreshment.

Beginners can easily get out of breath

I also recommend the tour - but not for untrained beginners. It finally goes up to over 650 meters in altitude. Good shoes are a must!

Anfänger kommen leicht aus der Puste

Ich empfehle die Tour auch – allerdings nicht für untrainierte Anfänger. Es geht schließlich auf über 650 Höhenmeter hinauf. Gutes Schuhwerk ist ein Muss!

La Trapa hiking in Mallorca

The tour was great. I found the monastery of the Trappist monks fascinating. I will do the other hikes as well. It's easier with a guide.

La Trapa Wandern auf Mallorca

Die Tour war klasse. Das Kloster der Trappistenmönche fand ich faszinierend. Ich werde auch die anderen Wanderungen noch machen. Mit Guide ist es leichter.
