Booking option: Hiking on Fuerteventura: Escanfraga

On this route, we hike 7 km along the sacred mountain of Escanfraga, which at 533 m high is not only the highest volcano on the island of Fuerteventura, but also one of the oldest volcanoes (formed around 1 million years ago). Those who dare the adventure of climbing the volcano will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over the north of Fuerteventura. During the hike, you will learn how the locals used the crater area to survive in the past, utilising the scarce rainfall to grow crops and with the help of camels. This is why this trail is also known as the "camel trail". After a well-earned break and a few photos to capture the moment, we return to a restaurant for brunch.

Detailed description

Hiking route to Monte Escanfraga in the north of Fuerteventura

Experience a wonderful hiking adventure on Fuerteventura and accompany us to the highest volcano on the island: Montaña Escanfraga. Nestled in a unique volcanic landscape with breathtaking panoramic views, this peak is one of the most beautiful hiking destinations on the island. The Escanfraga hike starts in Villaverde and follows the so-called camel path, which was once used by farmers and their animals. We cross the caldera on a route of around 7 kilometres and reach the summit of Montaña Escanfraga via the last, somewhat steeper section. Up there, a quiet beauty awaits us that makes us forget everything else. A view over the whole north of the island. It is no coincidence that Montaña Escanfraga has long been the best vantage point for watching ships and possible pirate attacks. It also offers a glimpse into the island's geological past: Escanfraga was formed around a million years ago and is a testimony to the volcanic activity that shaped Fuerteventura. The hike requires a moderate level of fitness and surefootedness. The way back takes us straight to a local restaurant, where we recharge our batteries with a brunch together.
