Hiking in Mallorca with children

If you want to spend your holiday with children on the Balearic island and explore the beautiful nature, it is often difficult to get the little ones excited about a hike. However, there are many easy and beautiful hikes that are suitable for hiking in Mallorca with children, as they include a variety of sights, beaches or adventurous activities. We present five routes / hikes for children for hiking in Mallorca.

1. hiking in Mallorca with children: Waterfall walk

An easy and short hike (about 30 minutes each way), which is very flat, goes from Orient to the Salt des Freu waterfalls, which carry water in the winter months from November to February / March (= especially when it has rained). This route is particularly suitable for hiking in Mallorca with children, as the car can be parked at the side of the path at the starting point. From there, you walk through fields and meadows full of sheep and with marvellous views of the mountains until you reach the entrance to the forest with a river that feeds the beautiful waterfalls. The Salt des Freu waterfalls, nestled in a forest with a very mystical appearance thanks to the green moss, are a very special attraction, as canyoning is also popular there - so the little ones always have something to marvel at.

If you have children who like to go into the water, you can discover seven idyllic bays on this fantastic coastal hike on the south-east coast, which are also perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The route from Cala Barca via Cala Mondragó, which takes around 1.5-2 hours, will delight you with its crystal-clear, turquoise-blue water in picturesque bays. This coastal walk is very flat (max. 30 m ascent/descent), making it perfect for hiking in Mallorca with children. Along the way, you can marvel at a replica of a 1000-year-old dry stone wall dwelling and - depending on the time of year - the bright blooms of the flowers in the Mondragó nature reserve.

3. hiking in Mallorca with children: Adventure trekking

If simply hiking is too boring, you can go on a little adventure with slightly older children on Mallorca: On the guided hike to a cave, you first start with an easy hike with an experienced guide, during which you abseil down at a selected point (thanks to the protection and introduction by the experienced guide, this route for hiking in Mallorca with children aged 12 and over is easily possible). Once at the bottom, a natural stalactite cave awaits you, whose impressive limestone formations you can explore together with your guide.

The marvellous panoramic views on the tour through inhabited and uninhabited areas will never cease to amaze your children while hiking on Mallorca. If you have little summiteers, you can also take part in the ascent to Bauça, which rewards you with fantastic views of the south-west coast, or you can use the 40-minute break at the foot of the mountain to rest and play until your fellow hikers are back.

For adventurous children who can swim 200 metres in the sea without fear, the cave swimming tour is an unforgettable experience. Together with an experienced hiking guide, you start an easy hike along the coast until you finally swim 200 metres in the sea to the entrance of the stalactite cave.
