The hike through the gorge of Kritsa begins at the end of the village of Kritsa. After the ascent, the path leads to the foot of the Tsivi summit and over the Katharo plateau. The first section of the gorge, about 2.5 kilometres long, is ideal for hiking. The height difference between the entrance and the exit of the ravine is about 200 metres.

The landscape inside the gorge is impressive. The watercourse is densely overgrown with plane trees, oaks, oleanders and many plant species typical for Crete. In a few places a little climbing practice is necessary to overcome smaller rocks. You hike alongside an experienced guide. The hike is also suitable for children.

The Kritsa Gorge on Crete is an El Dorado for hikers. This spectacular canyon opens up exciting, multi-faceted, with small climbing units and amidst the Cretan nature. A hike through the Kritsa Gorge is an experience that offers variety for both nature lovers and active holidaymakers. The gorge hike begins at the end of the pretty and historically significant village of Kritsa, situated in the east of Crete and only a few kilometres from the popular holiday destination of Agios Nikolaos. Even the entrance into the Kritsa Gorge is remarkable - like a portal the crevice between the rocks opens for the hiker.

Sure-footedness and a spirit of adventure are good companions for this hike. In some places you will have to climb over rocks and be allowed to do some climbing. Metal brackets will help you over obstacles in some places. The hike through the Kritsa Gorge is not only a sporting pleasure, but also a botanical discovery. Endemic plants, plane trees, oaks and wonderfully fragrant oleanders line the path through the riverbed, which has dried up over long stretches of the year. Between the up to 150-metre-high rock faces, the trail narrows with every metre and narrows to a minimum of 90 centimetres at a passage. The Kritsa Gorge is well accessible except for the places where you have to help yourself to get ahead. Solid footwear is highly recommended to pass the gravel bed safely. The path is lined with markings that provide orientation.
