Detailed description

Hiking the Camino Real Tenerife - from the south on the royal path

Just for the view of the Teide, you wouldn't have to do the hike on the Camino Real Tenerife - but the route through this unique nature of Tenerife is worth every metre and it is a nice wow moment of this around 4-hour hiking tour from the plateau in Santiago del Teide down to Los Gigantes. The Camino Real takes you back in history - you get closer to the history of the Guanches with every metre you cover. This trade route used to connect the mountain villages to the coast. In its heyday, large parts of the harvest were transported by donkeys and other pack animals along the difficult route. Today it is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the pristine Teno Mountains and enjoy nature in peace off the beaten track. The view of Mount Teide is breath-taking, especially at the beginning of the hike on Tenerife.

For hikers, the Camino Real is mainly the way into a fabulous and at times very original natural landscape. At an altitude of around 900 metres above sea level, in the middle of the untouched Teno mountains, the hike on the Camino Real starts in Santiago del Teide and takes you through an areas of thick vegetation Pine forest, bushes, ferns, lush greenery. This hike on Tenerife is downhill all the way. Only 50 metres uphill need to be negotiated. Otherwise it’s just down to the sea. On the way down we slowly approach the flowering terraces and enjoy the tropical fruits that thrive here – crops like bananas and mangoes for example - and perhaps we will meet some of the goats and sheep that used to be led down into the valley along the Royal Way.

The Camino Real hike is also a worthy alternative to the Masca Gorge hike. It’s not quite as famous, but at least as varied and impressive, thanks to the gorge it passes over. You will reach the coastal town of Los Gigantes after about 4 hours of walking with your guide, which is famous for its huge cliffs. You will be transferred back to your hotel afterwards. The transfer time from the south is about 45 minutes.

A nice tour with a small group

Luckily there were only 8 participants and Teresa, our tour guide. She guided us well for the 4 hours and with her stories/explanations (blah, blah, blah;)) led us to the destination! Always trying to explain everything well in French, English and German. Thank you!

Danke!

Teide hike on the Camino Real

The mountains with this outrageously blue sea horizon: A dream! I've seen bananas and palm trees, nettles and dandelions - nature's melting pot.

Actually, I'm not a hiker ...

But my girlfriend forcibly booked me. But when it started, I was delighted because the whole trip was always downhill. Hiking was fun for me too. My four stars really mean something, because normally I would have given 0 stars for a hiking tour!

The unique Camino Real in Tenerife!

Royal road? Yes - after the first few kilometers and looking out over the landscape and the lake, I felt like a king. The hiking guide went to great lengths to entertain us and keep us happy. Everything went well.

Alles bestens gelaufen.
