A walking holiday on Mallorca is wonderful, because nowhere else can you discover so many fantastic landscapes in such a small area. Many tour operators offer planned hiking holidays to Mallorca that have a set itinerary every day. If you prefer to plan your own itinerary, we will give you some helpful tips on hiking and possible hikes that you can put together to suit your own taste.

If you are looking for accommodation, make sure you stay near the Serra de Tramuntana. The south-west near Calvia, just behind Palma de Mallorca around Santa Maria / Bunyola or in the north near Pollensa are ideal starting points to quickly reach a large number of different starting points on your hiking trip to Mallorca in a hire car. The transport network on Mallorca is good, but bus connections (especially in the mountains) are only available every hour or several hours from the morning until the early afternoon. If you are planning an individual hiking trip to Mallorca to suit your taste, you are best advised to hire a car or scooter: this way you can start at your desired time without stress and also easily reach more remote starting points for hikes. You also have the option of travelling to Palma in the evening or taking a day off from hiking and doing something else. If you have accommodation in the south-west of the island, there are numerous guided hikes on Mallorca, from which you will be picked up from your hotel / holiday flat for the respective hike and then brought back again.

If you have never hiked on Mallorca before, we recommend easy hikes for the first day to familiarise yourself with the terrain (often small, loose stones in the mountains) and the climate (sun protection is also important in winter). The Galilea hike, for example, with its wonderful panoramic views or a coastal hike at Cala Mondragó on the east coast are ideal for this, as they allow you to compare the different coasts of the island. For the next few days of your Mallorca hiking holiday, you can then plan medium to difficult hikes, depending on your fitness level.
Among the classics on the island are the hiking routes La Trapa near Sant Elm, where you can hike to an old monastery with a fabulous view of the island of Dragonera, the ascent to Puig d'Alaró, on whose summit the historic castle ruins of Castell d'Alaró from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding area, as well as the difficult descent through the Torrent de Pareis, a dried-up torrent with breathtaking scenery, several cave systems and huge boulders that have to be climbed over. If you like hiking along the coast, you will find numerous beautiful coastal walks around Deià and Valldemossa for your hiking holiday in Mallorca, or you can head a little further north and hike to the former waterworks at Cala Tuent.
For summiteers, there are a variety of medium to challenging hikes with spectacular views, such as the ascent to Puig de Galatzó in the south-west, Puig de Massanella, Puig de Tomir or Talaia de la Victoria in the north of the island.
