Option 1: Costa Verde: 4x4 Tour combined with Caín-Poncebos Hike

After enjoying some free time in the small mountain village of Caín de Valdeón during the Costa Verde Jeep Tour, the "Ruta del Cares" begins, a 2-3 hour unguided but easy 12 km hike to Poncebos. The hike takes you through an incredible mountain landscape, with the peaks of the Picos de Europa above and the Cares River below. During the jeep tour on the Costa Verde you will pass steep slopes, some of them going down to 800 meters, and you should be free of vertigo.

The road is relatively flat, wide and comfortable. Parts of the trail pass through natural tunnels with windows, but most of the time you will have a clear view of the sky. The bridges of Los Rebecos and Bolín cross the Cares River twice. The extraordinary "Ruta del Cares" will inspire you and you will enjoy the wonderful views of the Pico de Europa National Park. The Costa Verde jeep tour ends in Poncebos, from where you will return to your starting point.

Option 2: Costa Verde: 4x4 tour to the National Park Pico de Europa

For the Costa Verde Jeep Tour you will be picked up in the morning in Arriondas or Cangas de Onís. Your guide will take you in a 4x4 jeep through the beautiful mountain scenery towards Caín. You will drive through the Beyos Gorge, one of the most impressive gorges in northern Spain, and get to know a salmon area along the Sella River. The Costa Verde jeep tour continues over the old mountain pass through the Sajambre Valley to Soto, where you will visit an old corn mill built in 1873. The route continues towards Vegabaño to a viewpoint at 1500 meters above sea level. An old Roman road will take you to Oseja de Sajambre, a small and beautiful mountain village, where you will stop for a while.

During the jeep tour along the Costa Verde you will now follow the new pass, passing other impressive viewpoints such as the source of the river Sella and the two passes Pontón and Panderruedas to "Mirador del Tombo". From there you can see the highest peaks of the Picos de Europa National Park. On the way to Posada de Valdeón and Caín you will stop at "El Chorco de los Lobos", a very old trap in the forest that was used to catch wolves. At 14:00 the jeep tour will take you to Caín on the Costa Verde. Here you will have some free time to enjoy a meal in this picturesque mountain village (not included in the price), before continuing the tour in the Spanish National Park Picos de Europa with a hike from Caín to Poncebos or by jeep, depending on the booking option you have chosen.

After your stay in Caín de Valdeón, the jeep tour on the Costa Verde will take you in your 4x4 SUV to the Valdeón Valley in the mountains of the Picos de Europa National Park. Crossing the Pandetrave Pass you will reach Fuente Dé, famous for its glacier basin and cable car. The jeep tour on the Costa Verde will take you to Áliva. Detailed description

Costa Verde Jeep Tour - with or without a hike through the Cares Gorge

The Costa Verde Jeep Tour takes you through Spain's second largest National Park after the Sierra Nevada. You will be amazed by the beauty and diversity of the landscape. Experience adventure and an impressive flora and fauna on a pure jeep tour or in combination with an eventful hike in the Cantabrian Mountains in Asturias through the Cares Gorge. You will be picked up in the morning in Arrionda or Cangas de Onís on the Costa Verde for the full day jeep tour. The route starts with a guide in a 4x4 jeep through the beautiful mountains towards Caín. Up to the small village there is no difference between the two bookings. You will pass impressive mountain formations and passes, stop at viewpoints with magnificent panoramic views and visit, among others, an old corn mill and "El Chorco de los Lobos", a very old wolf trap.

After enjoying some free time in Caín during the jeep tour on the Costa Verde in Caín, you can either start the "Ruta del Cares" hiking route through the Cares Gorge or continue by jeep to the central mountains of the National Park. The hike takes you along deep, steep slopes, crosses the Cares River on small bridges and offers indescribable views of the Picos de Europa mountain range. The difficulty of the 12-kilometer hike is low, as the trail is relatively flat and easy. If you choose to do the Costa Verde Jeep Tour without hiking, you will go deeper into the National Park, explore even higher altitudes and discover picturesque mountain villages in the middle of the imposing Cantabrian Mountains. Enjoy an adventurous and eventful day in untouched, beautiful nature and learn a lot of interesting facts from your guide.
