Great opportunity for a barbecue on the beach and a short visit to Spinalonga: from Agios Nikolaos we cruise through the beautiful bay of Mirabello and reach the fortified island of Spinalonga a little later. There you will have a stay of about 1,5 hours and can go for a walk or sightseeing. A multilingual printed guidebook, which you will receive on board the ship, will give you interesting facts about the history of the island. From Spinalonga we go to the Kolothika Bay and anchor there for a bathing break of about 1 hour.During this time the crew will prepare a barbecue on the beach with grilled meat, bread, salad and fruits, and you are welcome to join us.

Boat trip to Spinalonga from Agios Nikolaos with barbecue at Kolokitha beach

Much more than the remains of the invincible Venetian fortress, Spinalonga is known as the island of the lepers. Until the 1950s, the island in eastern Crete was a place of the damned. Those who had leprosy were brought to Spinalonga and isolated from the Cretan population. The historic leprosy station is now one of the top destinations for Crete holidaymakers. Spinalonga tours from Agios Nikolaos or Elounda are particularly popular, although the tour from Agios Nikolaos is a longer boat trip thanks to the slightly longer distance (15 kilometres). So if you want to enjoy the sea at the same time, you can cast off on the east coast of the island.

Aboard an excursion boat for up to 300 passengers, we start our 5.5-hour day trip in the morning in Agios Nikolaos and first cross the magnificent bay of Mirabello and a short passage on the open sea before dropping anchor off Spinalonga. The 1,5 hour stay on the historical island allows you to stroll through the small, uninhabited town and visit the former infirmary (the entrance fee for this historical site is only payable on site and therefore not included in the price). On board the ship you will receive a printed guide in advance, which contains additional information about the history of Spinalonga.

After this small stopover we continue our boat tour through Mirabello Bay and reach the beautiful beach of Kolokitha, located on the east side of Kalydon Island. Here we take time for a swim in the crystal clear turquoise water or for a relaxing moment on board. Meanwhile, the crew will prepare a barbecue on the beach, to which you are cordially invited. Meat will be grilled, there will be bread, salad and wine. At this beautiful anchor stop we will finish the Spinalonga boat trip and return to Agios Nikolaos in the afternoon.
