The natural wonders of the Basque coast - an adventure safari on the Flysch Route
The geopark of the Basque coast will amaze you. 60 million years of geological history are practically at your feet on the Costa Vasca in northern Spain. In view of the steep cliffs of enormous size and the vertical crevasses reaching vertically into the sea - the so-called flysch - observers sometimes rub their eyes in surprise, so unusual are the discoveries in this part of Spain. Be prepared for natural wonders on the Land Rover Tour on Flysch Route. And a landscape that is so different from what one is used to in Spanish holiday destinations. On this half-day tour you and your driver and tour guide can explore a large part of the Gipuzkoa region in a comfortable and entertaining way. The Costa Vasca is one of Spain's real natural treasures. Wildly romantic, richly green and with a highly varied coastal landscape.
The Land Rover Tour on the Flysch Route starts in San Sebastián, the cultural metropolis of the Basque Country with its many museums, churches and galleries as well as the beaches close to the city, which not only make the hearts of surfers beat faster. Donostia, as the Spanish call the coastal pearl, lies directly on the Bay of Biscay. From there you reach the entrance gate to the Flysch Route in an all-terrain vehicle on a beautiful route. During the half-day excursion you will not sit in your car all the time, but will also have the opportunity to see the wonders of nature up close. A short hike takes you to the wild beach of Sakoneta, where you can admire the flysch, which consists of sediment deposits, from different perspectives. A section of the Way of St James leads to the Mendatagaina lookout point, from where you can enjoy the view over the Bay of Biscay and the cliffs.
The next stop on the flysch route on the Costa Vasca is Zumaia. The pretty coastal town with the imposing church of San Pedro has two beaches. Now famous is Itzuru Beach, where the Game of Thrones series was shot. A visit to the Hermitage of San Telmo - "Eight Basque Surnames" - is also planned here. The last stage of the Flysch Route leads through Getaria and Zarautz. On a walk by the sea you can admire the cliffs again before the safari leads back to San Sebastian, where we will stop on the boulevard near the old town.
The Land Rover Tour on the Flysch Route can also be booked as a private half-day excursion with a guide for up to 6 people.
