Detailed description

A spectacular dive at the Underwater Museum near Playa Blanca on Lanzarote

As one of the major Canary Islands in the north of the volcanic archipelago, Lanzarote is situated off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. The island is mild and dry all year round and offers many unique attractions, both on land and in the water. In addition to its long lava tunnels, wide rocky deserts and the mountains of fire, Lanzarote is also home to the largest aquarium on the Canary Islands and a museum created by Jason de Caires Taylor that is entirely under water.

You get to explore this Underwater Museum near Lanzarote during the dive. The Atlantic Museum not only has a clear message about protecting and preserving the oceans, it also fulfils a practical purpose. The artist wants to show how human values can be integrated into nature. The park that is below sea level is filled with detailed sculptures made of pH-neutral concrete, including statues of Zeus and Aphrodite. The whole of the Underwater Museum serves as an artificial reef to create more space for the local marine life to live and to help it regenerate. Do you want to get to know this incomparable work yourself, but you have never worn diving equipment in your life? No problem. Book the beginner’s dive, a 6-hour excursion into the breath-taking underwater world.

The experienced diving instructor and all of the equipment you need are included in the price. You will be taken on your first dive at the Underwater Museum once you have been briefed on the theory of diving and shown how to use the equipment in practice. Of course you can also book the full experience if you are an experienced diver and you already have a diving permit. Start your underwater tour early in the morning and go on two dives, one on the south coast of the island in the bay of Las Coloradas, where you can see the local marine life in its natural environment and another dive down to the Underwater Museum off the coast of Lanzarote.

The admission ticket to the museum is included in the price, as well as the dive in the company of a professional EcoGuide and also the boat. If your aim is just to explore the Atlantic Museum, we recommend the individual dive from noon onwards, during which you will spend around 2.5 hours exploring the fish and the sculptures. The Underwater Museum off Lanzarote offers you unforgettable experiences that are both informative and impressive.
