After leaving the town of Vilaflor de Chasna, we come across the Camino del Atajo, which is part of the old Royal Way of Chasna that once connected the north of the island with the south. After entering the pine forest, we see Casa Galindo, located on the edge of the Las Mesas ravine. Then we cross the ravine to continue the ascent on the Camino de Chasna, from which we have a magnificent view of the mountain peaks. On the way down, we will reach the viewpoint of Los Escurriales (Lunar Landscape) and the Casa Los Llanitos house before joining the path back to Vilaflor.

Lunar Landscape hike in Tenerife: Paisaje Lunar Vilaflor

Experience a natural jewel of Tenerife that seems to be out of this world: the white lunar landscape of Vilaflor. A picture of austere beauty and warm contrasts peppered with minarets of pumice and ashes, embedded in the lush vegetation of Tenerife's mountain landscape. The Paisaje Lunar hike leads through the beautiful pine forests of the protected Corona Forest on the edge of the Teide National Park up to the viewpoint over the lunar landscape. Already on the way there some of the white cones will be visible between the tree tops.

As these bizarre rock formations are extremely sensitive deposits that could be destroyed by the slightest tremor, the circular walk was laid out somewhat offset. We stick to the signposted route and view the moon landscape of Tenerife with due distance. From the Mirador, we will have a good view to the white moon towers and enjoy this phenomenon. Starting point of our circular walk Paisaje Lunar is Vilaflor, with 1400 metres the highest located village of Spain. One part of the Moon Landscape Hike follows the old Chasna trail, a route that has been in existence for 500 years, connecting the north and south of the island.

Two forces in particular have affected the lunar landscape of Vilaflor: the volcanic eruptions of the Teide and erosion by wind and rain. This is how the partly pyramid-like structures of the washed out tuff stone towers were created. We will need approximately 4 hours for the Paisaje hike on Tenerife. A small break is included. The hike requires some surefootedness despite the comfortably constructed paths. We will cover approximately 14 kilometres, whereby the first part offers a very fast ascent and then leads us through the light kingdom of the royal pines. After we have captured and admired the moon landscape of Tenerife at the view point, we return to Vilaflor at the other side of the circular hiking path. If you have chosen the transfer from Puerto de la Cruz, we will drive you back to the starting point.
