If you want to dive a little deeper, book an Open Water Diving course and look forward to dives off Funchal at depths of up to 18 metres. The courses for children and adults have in common that you will be accompanied by experienced teachers.

Option 1: Scuba diving in Funchal

An introductory dive for those who want to get their first experience in the beautiful underwater world of Madeira. You first complete basic training in the pool to get to know the equipment and to get a feeling for breathing and movement under water. In this 2-hour course, an instructor will take care of you alone. And if you feel safe enough, you'll go to sea. For about 30 minutes you will visit the house reef of the diving school at the side of your instructor and enjoy the lively flora and fauna.

Option 2: Open Water Diver in Funchal

You will learn the basic principles of diving in the Open Water Diver Course. Within 3 days you can prepare yourself for worldwide diving adventures with this course. A total of 7 dives are part of the basic training. In addition to theoretical knowledge and equipment, the course includes 2 dives in the pool and 5 more in the sea. You will be underwater to a maximum depth of 18 metres and learn all the techniques necessary to feel safe. The course ends with a written test and if you pass, you will receive an internationally recognised certificate.

Diving in Madeira - discover the colourful world of the Atlantic Ocean from Funchal

The Atlantic Ocean around Madeira is more colourful and species-rich than ever before. Dynamic shoals of fish shoot out of caves, over the reefs and between the crevasses. The warm Gulf Stream transports here an impressive, almost tropically colorful swarming and also under water a dense vegetation around the island of eternal spring. For beginners and advanced learners, the Portuguese island is an exciting and varied area, especially the sun-drenched south. Those who want to get closer to underwater sports or learn to dive in Madeira are in good hands in Funchal. Wonderful dive spots are right outside the door. Among them also the famous nature reserve Garajau, which is known for its groupers, for the manta rays and the occurrence of many other imposing sea inhabitants. Exploring this reserve is one of the most beautiful Madeira diving experiences ever.

Funchal is also the starting point of your introductory diving course, which will familiarise you with the basics of this wonderful water sports activity. Before you go into the sea with all your equipment, you will learn how to use it under the guidance of professional instructors and everything you need to move safely and well under water. For starters, slowly dive through the pool of the dive center with a wetsuit and bottle until you feel ready for the next step. This leads you directly to the flora and fauna inhabited house reef of the diving school, only a few meters from the coast. With your instructor you dive there for an average of 30 minutes in the Atlantic Ocean and can search for manta rays, parrotfish, moray eels and other moving colour tuffs under water. Diving in Madeira is generally possible all year round.

The Open Water Diver course is one level higher in theory and one level lower in practice. If you want to prepare for further diving adventures, you can learn everything you need for dives worldwide in this course. A modular teaching concept is tailored to adults and children and geared to progress. The course can be completed in only 3 days, but can also be tailored to the duration of your choice. During the course you will complete a total of 7 dives, to warm up you will go twice into the pool and then 5 times into the sea, where you can explore the underwater world at a depth of up to 18 meters. At the end of the course there is also a written test where you can test your newly acquired knowledge. The certificate, which you receive here, is valid worldwide. The Open Water Diver course is also suitable for children to dive in Madeira or to gain experience in the Atlantic Ocean. In this case, the diving depth is limited to 8 meters or 12 meters from the age of 12 years.
