Detailed description

Entry tickets to the mansion Museum "La Granja" in Majorca, Esporles

Visit the authentic Majorca! La Granja is a 10th-century mansion that gives visitors the opportunity to discover the Majorca of old in a lovely relaxed setting. The visit shows how life on the island was in the past, from the mansion itself to the work areas. The Museum offers also the chance to try various traditional products, such as Majorca wines, various sweet delicacies such as fig bread and our famous buñuelo fritters, which can be enjoyed with La Granja jams, bread with sobrasada sausage, cheese and cured meats. There is also a cafeteria and a restaurant with a broad and varied menu.

Traditional majorcan cuisine. Fig bread has been made in Mallorca for many years and is indispensable during the cold winters in the country houses. The figs are mashed together with small pieces of aniseed, "hierbas" and almonds, and then baked in the oven. Various jams are also made on the premises, such as apricot, fig and orange and all from natural products. All of which you are invited to taste and are on sale in the shop.

Beautiful flora. There are pines, holm oaks, strawberry trees, shrubs, rosemary, asparagus etc. A couple of magestic conifers rise up in the centre of the garden, however, the central attraction is the yew tree which proudly stands at one end of the pond. Throughout the centuries the yew was very much prized for its hard wood but at the same time feared, due to its deadly fruit. "The yew which grows in La Granja is one of the very few examples left on the Island, being a thousand years old with an ornately shaped trunk and interweaving branches."

Varying fauna. We find a selection of animals usually found on a farm, such as pheasants, ducks and geese and others from the forests, like African partridges and deer. The "porc negre" - black Mallorcan pig, deserves a special mention as its meat is fundamental for making the islands' best quality sausages - "sobrasada, llengonissa, botifarra, camaiot" etc. Some animals that inhabit this area are the Mallorca goat, rabbits, hares, kites, kestrels, pigeons, partridges, turtledoves, quail, shrikes, sparrows, goldfinches and, if you're very lucky you may catch sight of the graceful glide of a black vulture.

Furtermore you can see: Blacksmith,Turner´s Workshop, Candlemaker, Pottery, Looms, Carpenter´s Workshop, Spanish Grasswork, Cobbler. There is also a 1.2 km long walking path through the forest, where you can enjoy the amazing views over the mansion and gardens.

Interesting family visit

I loved it. It is a very spectacular mansion, it allows you to see old objects and furniture in very good condition. The gardens are also very nice and the tasting with freshly made donuts, the children found it so interesting that it became an obligatory stop on repeated occasions during the visit.

Interesante visita en familia

Me gustó mucho.

Always beautiful

I love to look at every La Granja visit on Mallorca. The mansion has simply a great charm and while wandering through the rooms you can wonderfully return to old times. The lush gardens, the waterfalls and the equator are great photographs, and for children there are some animals for looking and stroking. If you are interested in life on Mallorca, I can recommend La Granja.
