Detailed description

Check out the Portuguese island: Visit a Madeira market

Madeira has been nicknamed the Flower Island and attracts people time and time again because of its stunning nature and impressive biodiversity. The name says it all, Madeira translates to mean wood. Madeira is one of many islands in an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. Go on walks through the tranquillity and soak up the scenery in the Algarve. The first stop is at Garajau; the main attraction is the statue of Christ built back in 1927. Take in the sights as you get to see Funchal and its harbour from afar. Next, on to Santa Cruz which is stacked full of colourful fishing boats lined up along the shore of the pretty pebble beach which has its fair share of palm trees. The Santa Cruz market hall serves up fresh fish and a great mix of fresh fruit and veg. The church dates to the 16th century is well worth a visit.

The bus tour goes on to Machico. Machico was the first place that people arrived in when Madeira was discovered. The sugar cane cultivation and milling are important in the town. The 320m-high Pico do Facho towers over Machico bay. Come across stunning rock formations and rare plants like the ice plant at the easternmost point on the island: Ponta de São Lorenço Nature Park. The next stop on the Madeira tour is Santo da Serra which is home to the wealthy. Set your eyes on a pink villa, a manor house and the Quinta da Serra. Spend Sunday morning at a local market and see some lovely locally made knick-knacks.

The market isn't worth it

The tour was perfectly organized. We drove alone in the car with a nice driver. As everywhere on the island, the views at the stops are breathtakingly beautiful. Unfortunately, the market didn't deliver what was expected. Mainly everyday textiles and hardly any local ones. In addition, some of the stands were empty. For the market alone I would not recommend this tour to anyone!!!

Madeira for Beginners

To get a first impression of this unique island, I can highly recommend this bus tour through the outer southeast of Madeira. An inexpensive but very professional offer.

Madeira for Beginners

Nice trip

The tour is really nice. Personally, I didn't find the flea market to be a “runaway”.

Netter Ausflug

It all started in Funchal

I didn't expect to see such different cultures and nature in such a small space. From the cute fishing village to the fantastic nature park to the folkloric island flea market. Gladly again!

Gerne nochmals!
