Detailed description

Be in awe of the waterfalls and marvellous mountains in Madeira

Hop on a bus and tour Madeira. This Portuguese volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean is full of bubbling waterfalls and mountain rivers; the landscape is charming from top to bottom. It hasn't been that long since the volcano was active which means that the rivers and waterfalls flow down the mountains in Madeira.

Câmara de Lobos is where the Madeira Bus Tour kicks off from. Taste a tipple of the local drink Poncha, a mix of honey, lemon and sugarcane rum from a local pub next to the harbour. The second stop on the Madeira Bus Tour is the highest cliff in Europe at 580-metres high. Spend a bit more time in Ribeira Brava and admire the 16th-century Church. The crowd favourite is however the Fort of São Bento where we stop for a spot of coffee. Next, it’s on to the sunniest place in Madeira. Wind your way through the streets and cast your eyes on its marvellous buildings. The town is based bang in the middle of peaks underneath a banana plantation. Enough culture and now on to the scenic elements. There is a lot to see and do in Madeira.

The largest and highest mountain plateau in Madeira is set in the middle of wilderness and at 1400m-high it’s quite a way up. The mountain views are out-of-this-world and you don’t miss a beat. The fresh air can bring on a sudden appetite, roam around Porto Moniz and grab something along the pier like local seafood. Sit and take in the sights and rest your food for a minute.

Move on to Brides Veil which is one of Madeira’s most famous waterfalls. With a name like it has, you’ve set your hopes high and you won’t be let down. The white, water bubbles and flows down the mountain slopes into the sea in São Vicente. Finish things up in Laurissilva Forest and get treated to views of the North and South coast at the same time (weather permitted).
