Detailed description
Rafting tour in Galicia - down the Ulla river to Pontevedra
Rafting fits well with the wild landscape of Galicia - it is as adventurous, nature-loving and exciting as the northwest of Spain and its rivers. Experience here a rapid, 3-hour descent on the wild river Ulla and let yourself be carried away by currents, turns and curves. The activity starts in Padrón, not far from the pilgrim metropolis of Santiago de Compostela. At the rafting base you will be welcomed and can prepare for your adventure in Galicia. There will be an initial briefing and instructions on safety precautions. With the crew and the well-maintained equipment you will be transferred to the starting point on the river.
The Ulla rises in the mountains near Olveda and leads down to the Atlantic Ocean, the estuary is known as Ria de Arousa. In between, there are moving, but also quiet sections that give the opportunity to concentrate on the varied banks and to admire the vegetation, whether forests or fields or the in Galicia so green mountain country. But in between you have to be awake and concentrated, because the Ulla is just as rich in rapids and whirlpools and offers refreshing jumps, some turns and even waterfalls.
Rafting in Galicia is above all a sport for nature lovers and for adventurers who are courageous enough to face the extremes. Enjoy the fresh air, the wonderful surroundings and the outdoor exercise. In the land of 1000 rivers, you don't have to search long for a suitable rafting spot. The rivers in Galicia are close to each other, the Ulla is one of the largest rivers in this landscape with 132 kilometres. The descent on a rubber dinghy to the Pontevedra region sharpens all your senses and lets you relax from everyday life. Rafting in Galicia requires a lot of teamwork. Not for nothing is this water sports activity such a good and rewarding training for groups. Rafting on the Ulla is possible all year round, and the wild course of the river is also ideal for winter rafting from November to April.
On the way you will see the canyon formed by the mountains Meda and Castro Valente, ride past a mill dam and with a bit of luck you will also see salmon, trout or a lamprey, a typical river fish of the Ulla. Previous knowledge is not required for the rafting adventure in Galicia. The descent is suitable for beginners as well as for experienced rafters who want to take up a challenge. The inflatable can accommodate 8 participants (minimum 6). The Ulla offers 2 sections for this exciting water sport along the entire route.
