Detailed description

Day trip to Symi island by boat from Rhodes Town

The Greek island landscape is a picture book and Symi one of the most beautiful sites. Discover one of the favourite destinations in the Aegean Sea on our day trip from Rhodes to Symi. The island is a well-kept secret and preserves the face of ancient times. They were, at least temporarily, exceedingly generous. The inhabitants of Symi achieved some prosperity through sponge diving and sailing ship building - which lasted until the wave of emigration. Anyone who catches sight of the island with its pastel houses rising dramatically up the mountain cannot help but appreciate the elegant architecture. Symi is a place to stay and there is enough to see on the small island to make it more than a day trip destination.

For getting to know it, however, our Rhodes-Symi tour is a good place to start. We depart from Rhodes Town by excursion boat, transfer from the hotel to the port is included in the northern region. The boat trip in the Aegean Sea takes between 1 and 1.5 hours and goes directly to Gialos - the main port of Symi. A tour guide will introduce guests to the island and give tips for worthwhile tours. You can discover Symi with a local guide or arrange your own time on the island. Bear in mind that much of the island is only accessible on foot and, especially in the summer season, a climb to the upper town can be arduous. There are 500 steps to climb on Kali Strata to get to the panoramic view of the town and the Aegean Sea.

Panormitis Monastery in the southwest, about 18 kilometres from the harbour, is an orthodox place of pilgrimage and the most important place of excursions on Symi. The day tour Rhodes - Symi includes a visit to this religious centre. If you are mainly interested in the culture and cuisine of the island, visit one of the museums and especially one of the tavernas where Symi shrimps are on the menu - a real speciality. After sightseeing on Symi, we gather in the afternoon for the return journey to Rhodes.
