2. the most beautiful sailing areas on Mallorca with route suggestions
There are beautiful sailing areas around Mallorca that promise a fantastic sailing trip. While stronger winds often make the hearts of active sailors beat faster in the north, there are idyllic, turquoise-blue, almost carbon-like waters in the south that invite you to enjoy relaxed sailing trips. The east coast of Mallorca is perfect for sailing, as you can enter the many picturesque bays for a swimming break or sail along the coast as you wish. On the unprotected west coast, there are only sailing trips from Port de Sóller, which is why we recommend sailing along the south, east or north coast of Mallorca in a relaxed manner due to the somewhat difficult wind conditions. Depending on what type of sailor you are, you will find the best sailing areas on Mallorca here.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Palma to Cala Vinyes (south-west direction):
On this wonderful catamaran sailing trip from Palma to Cala Vinyes, you can discover the Bahia de Palma. You sail from Calò des Grells to the enchanting Cala Comtesa and can marvel at the scattered rocky islands off the coast of Mallorca. Watch the hustle and bustle on the famous beaches that stretch from Palma to the south-west of the island. Sail past Iletes, Palmanova and Magaluf to Cala Vinyes. You can take a break at anchor in many of the beautiful smaller bays along the way. On the way back, you can sit back, relax and be impressed by the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains towering in the distance.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Palma to Tolleric (eastwards):
Starting from the harbour of Palma, you can cross the entire Bahia de Palma on this catamaran excursion and explore the elongated coastline. Sail from Palma past Coll d'en Rebassa, on to Can Pastilla (where the Palma Aquarium is located) to Arenal, past the Ballermann, following the coast to Tolleric. You will also sail to Cala Blava with its turquoise-blue water, which is framed by rocky cliffs and is therefore ideal for cliff jumping during a swimming break. On this sailing trip, you can see the whole of Palma from the seaward side and enjoy the unique view of the elongated Bahia de Palma with the Sierra de Tramuntana behind it.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Santa Ponsa to Illa del Sec (eastwards):
A great sailing trip along the south-west coast of Mallorca is this day trip along the most beautiful bays. You sail from Santa Ponsa via the Malgrats Islands, a marine reserve, to El Toro. The luxury harbour there, Port Adriano, has modern architecture and is known throughout the island for its expensive yachts. The day trip takes you along the Illa del Toro marine reserve with its beautiful headland and rugged cliffs. The route continues past Cala Figuera to the three-finger bay of Portals Vells, which boasts a cave steeped in history and perfect snorkelling conditions. We turn around at the uninhabited rocky island of Illa del Sec, which is very rich in fish and therefore ideal for diving and snorkelling, and sail back to Santa Ponsa.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Colonia de Sant Jordi to Es Trenc or Es Cargol (east/west direction):
Sail on this catamaran from Colonia de Sant Jordi to the famous, Caribbean-like beaches of Es Trenc and Es Cargol. Depending on the sailing weather on the day, you will either sail in a southerly direction to the kilometre-long beach of Es Trenc with its crystal-clear water and white sand - or, if the wind is blowing in a different direction, you will sail north past several small rocky islands, e.g. Na Guardis, which was settled by the Punic people as early as the 4th century BC, until you reach Es Cargol beach. Es Cargol is known as the Es Trenc-like, but much quieter beach. Here, too, you can look forward to turquoise blue water and long, fine sandy beaches. Relax in the marvellous natural surroundings in the south of Mallorca.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Cala D'Or to Cala Figuera (southwards):
You can get to know the east coast better on this half-day sailing excursion. Starting from Cala D'Or, you sail along the east coast and many small bays, each more beautiful and colourful than the last. You will sail past the well-known, long bay of Cala Mondrago with its two beaches, which await you with bright turquoise-blue water. Continue to Cala Figuera, which offers a great photo opportunity with its picturesque stone huts by the water and is ideal for a snorkelling excursion. Afterwards, sail back across the sea to Cala D'Or and take in the beautiful coastline.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Porto Colom to Cala Varques (northwards):
One of the most beautiful sailing trips on Mallorca is this sailing trip from Porto Colom. You sail with a very friendly skipper from the harbour of Porto Colom past the black and white striped lighthouse of Portocolom and along the rugged coastline heading north. Bay after bay follows one another, while from the sea you can marvel at the coastline with the first mountains of the Llevant (the mountains in the east of Mallorca). You sail past Cala Virgili with its crystal-clear water and rocky coastline to the famous Cala Varques, which is known for its dreamy white beach, turquoise-blue water and several caves. You will then sail back - with the chance of spotting dolphins on the sea in this area.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Cala Ratjada to Cap Farrutx (northwards):
Sail along the beautiful Llevant nature reserve on this sailing trip from Cala Ratjada. From the bay of Cala Ratjada, head north, past Cala Agulla with its almost transparent water and on to Cala Mesquida, which has long been an insider's tip for beaches. From the seaside, you can enjoy views of the Llevant mountains on Mallorca throughout the sailing trip. You will sail as far as Cap Farrutx and the bay of Es Caló, which will delight you with its shallow, light-coloured sandy beach and turquoise, iridescent water. You should definitely go snorkelling in these rock-fringed bays!
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Alcúdia / Pollensa to Cap Formentor (northwards):
This sailing trip from Alcúdia on an exceptionally beautiful sailing ship takes you from the harbour of Alcúdia along the north coast to the famous Cap Formentor. You will sail past the Aucanada golf course with its offshore lighthouse island and the fascinatingly beautiful Platja des Coll Baix, which is nestled between huge rocky cliffs and can only be reached via an arduous hike or comfortably by boat. Sail past Cap des Pinar to the northernmost tip of Mallorca, Cap Formentor. There you can see the mountains and foothills of the Sierra de Tramuntana before sailing back again. This sailing trip can also start from Pollensa on request and take you past the paradisiacal Playa Formentor beach to Cap Formentor.
Suggested route for a sailing trip from Sòller to the Port de Sa Calobra (northwards):
Another possible sailing trip would be from the western harbour of Port de Sòller in a northerly direction to the famous bay of Sa Calobra. The west side is rarely sailed, as strong winds can often occur and there are no really well-protected harbours other than the port of Sòller. If you sail this route, you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Sierra de Tramuntana, past secluded natural beaches and impressive, rugged cliffs. When sailing in Mallorca West, you will also often find sea caves where you can swim and snorkel. Once you arrive in the bay of Sa Calobra, you should definitely relax in the crystal-clear water before sailing back to Port de Sóller.
