An interesting sailing trip from Mallorca to Ibiza
A very varied excursion tip for sailing enthusiasts is a sailing trip from Mallorca to Ibiza. The two islands are around 60 nautical miles apart, which is why you can sail from Mallorca to Ibiza in around half a day. However, as there is a lot to discover in both Mallorca and Ibiza and there are other interesting islands nearby, you should allow at least a week for a beautiful and safe trip.
Start of the sailing trip in Mallorca
If you are sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza, a harbour in the south or southwest of Mallorca is a good starting point, for example Port d'Andratx or Palma de Mallorca. From here, you have the choice right at the start of the sailing trip whether you want to sail directly from Mallorca to Ibiza or make a detour to the uninhabited rocky island of Dragonera or the Cabrera nature reserve. Dragonera is located on the south-west coast of Mallorca and has been a nature reserve since 1995. If you look at the island from the side, it really does resemble a dragon. The north-west side of the island is characterised by steep cliffs and is only built on with a lighthouse and a small road. Alternatively, you can make a detour to Cabrera if you are sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza. Cabrera is located at the south-eastern end of Mallorca's coast and is also a nature reserve. To sail to Cabrera, you must book in advance, as only a limited number of boats can anchor at any one time due to the nature reserve. The island boasts a great diversity of species and the fascinatingly beautiful blue cave of Cova Blava. As both islands are very close to Mallorca, they are perfect for sightseeing while sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza.
Between the Balearic Islands
As soon as the sails are set, we head towards Ibiza with moderate winds (up to 4 Beaufort). When sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza, with a bit of luck you may even spot dolphins, which like to accompany the sailing boats for a while. Enjoy the vastness of the sea and the deep blue of the water while you soak up the sun on deck. Once you arrive in Ibiza, you should make sure you find a place to anchor for the night in good time. The harbours on Ibiza tend to be more expensive than in Mallorca, and the city's larger harbours in particular are buzzing with shipping traffic. There is always the option of anchoring in smaller bays when sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza - but be careful: anchoring is not permitted in some calas due to nature conservation regulations. We also recommend a dinghy, which allows you to go ashore quickly and easily during the sailing trip to visit Ibiza or go shopping.
Ibiza's beauty
Ibiza's landscape is characterised by rugged cliffs on the impressive steep coast with limestone cliffs and dense pine forests that reach right up to the coastline. If you sail from Mallorca to Ibiza, you should plan enough time to explore the second largest Balearic island. Ibiza is known for its beautiful bays, its large number of uninhabited rocky islands off the coast and its intense party life. The night starts here at around 21:30 and the party goes on until dawn. If you're not in the mood for partying while sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza, you should focus on sightseeing instead. Ibiza Town in particular, with its multitude of delicious restaurants, historical sights and the enchanting old town, is well worth an extended visit. The best place to find beautiful beaches when sailing from Mallorca to Ibiza is just outside the tourist centres of Ibiza, where crystal-clear and bright turquoise waters await you. If Ibiza is not enough for you, we recommend a detour to Formentera. The nearby Balearic island is popular for its Caribbean-style beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
