Detailed description

Enjoy a sailing trip in Sanlucar de Barrameda

The estuary mouth of Guadalquivir once was a highly important transport hub for sea trade. In the once 100 km width river delta, that reached from the estuary mouth of Rio Tinto in Huelva until Sanlucar de Barrameda, history was made. It was the starting point of Columbus' third sea journey in 1498 and of Magellan's first world-round sailing trip in 1519. Nowadays you can find a broad sand bank over the historical place. Where once splendid expedition ships were anchoring, today you can see numerous rare birds breeding in a natural park.

Seamed by Doñana Natural Park and the beaches of Sanlucar de Barrameda, the today narrow river of Guadalquivir enters in the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy an eventful sailing trip from Sanlucar through this special area. If you want to relax at the calm idyll in the natural park, you'll not be disturbed by any motor noises when sailing on the comfortable Laser 16 sailboats. The varying riversides of Guadalquivir are beautiful sceneries for taking pictures.

In Sanlucar, where Columbus started to set the sails on his ships Santa Maria, Niña and Pinta, you'll be sailing with a small sailing boat. With seats at the side, the stable boat guarantees a calm trip. At stronger winds in late autumn or spring, the sailing trip can be a bit faster, if you're using all the wind force in the sails. You'll always enjoy impressive views on sand dunes covered with pine trees and salt fields of Doñana Natural Park. Numerous sights along the riverside such as beautiful churches and ancient vineyards are making the sailing trip on Guadalquivir river to an unforgettable experience.
