Diving excursion from Rhodes town to the bay of Kalithea

Kalithea Bay is considered one of the best diving spots in Rhodes thanks to its underwater caves and colourful schools of bream, octopus and grouper. The full day diving excursion allows beginners and advanced divers to dive into the colourful underwater world off Rhodes at depths of up to 6 metres and 14 metres respectively, depending on previous experience. A professional crew accompanies the individual diving groups. Each participant can participate in up to 2 dives during the tour. The dive boat will remain anchored in Kalithea Bay for the whole day, so you can relax on deck between dives. The following applies to all options:

Option 1: Diving excursion for beginners from Rhodes Town

The diving excursion starts in the Mandriki harbour in Rhodes town. By boat it goes to the bay of Kalithea, where a platform for divers and snorkelers is located. During the boat trip you will receive an entertaining and informative dive briefing and will be placed in a diving group. The crew will help you with the equipment, adjust your gear and make sure you feel comfortable in the water. The first dive in Kalithea Bay takes about 20 minutes and takes you to a depth of up to 5 meters. The second dive will be longer and a little deeper.

The minimum age for diving is 8 years. Children aged 8 and 9 join the introductory dive groups, but they dive one-to-one with a Divemaster and are limited to a maximum depth of 2 metres. The diving excursion lasts about 7.5 hours. The boat will return to Rhodes town in the afternoon when all participants have completed their dives. If you only want to participate in one dive, you can spend your free time in the water, on the platform or aboard. There you will also find a bar with snacks and drinks (not included).

Option 2: Diving excursion for experienced divers from Rhodes Town

The excursion for divers with previous experience also starts in the Mandriki harbour in Rhodes town. Together with other diving groups and snorkellers, the boat drops you off in the bay of Kalithea, which is one of the best diving spots around Rhodes. During the boat crossing there will be a briefing by the dive guide and you will adjust your equipment. You can make up to 2 dives, the average depth is between 10 and 14 meters. Kalithea is known for some breathtaking underwater caves, but also for the colourfulness of fish and plants.

The first dive takes about 25 minutes, the second dive 50 minutes. The visibility in Kalithea Bay is around 20 metres. The inhabitants of this area include bream, reef fish, rock fish, flounder, sea needle fish and octopus. If you are lucky, while diving in Rhodes you may also spot the Mediterranean barracuda, monk seals, turtles and nudibranches. The boat returns to Rhodes City in the afternoon. If you only want to take part in one dive, you can spend your free time on deck until the return trip or you can swim and snorkel.

Diving on Rhodes: Diving excursion for beginners & advanced divers in the bay of Kalithea

The marine life off Rhodes has become more colourful in recent years. A variety of micro-organisms, schools of fish and interesting underwater landscapes give new opportunities for diving on the island. One of the best diving spots in the north of Rhodes is Kalithea Bay, thanks to its crystal clear waters and a visibility of up to 20 metres. Our diving excursion for beginners and advanced divers leads to this wonderful place from Rhodes town.

By boat we will go from Mandriki harbour along the coast to our anchorage not far from the main bay of Kalithea. There we moor at a platform which serves as a base for divers and snorkellers on this day. Our diving excursion is suitable for children from 8 years of age. Except for swimming skills no previous experience is required. Each participant can make up to 2 dives in the bay. The Rhodes Diving Tour is accompanied by a team of professional guides and instructors, each of whom will take care of a group of divers.

Already during the boat trip there will be a short briefing for all participants and the crew will help you to put on your equipment. We start our dives in the respective groups. Those who have decided to try out diving on Rhodes will first make a 20 minute dive to a depth of 5 meters. Children up to 9 years of age each dive with a divemaster, maximum depth 2 meters. For certified divers we offer a diving experience on Rhodes in depths of up to 14 meters. The bay of Kalithea welcomes divers with some caves and the chance to see reef fish, sea needle fish or even flounders. The first dive lasts between 20 and 25 minutes for all groups. The second dive will be longer and will lead further down into the underwater world of Rhodes.

Those who come to Rhodes for diving will enjoy colourful schools of bream, squid, octopus and groupers. With a little luck and good timing, seahorses, amber jacks, tuna, stingrays or turtles can also appear in front of your diving mask. Even monk seals can be seen from time to time. The warm and crystal clear water has also brought some immigrants from the Red Sea to the coast of Rhodes, such as soldier fish, rabbit fish and lion fish.
