Detailed description

Farmer's Markets in Teror and San Mateo: A shopping spree in North Gran Canaria which sets off from the South and the West

This shopping excursion in Gran Canaria takes you along to two of the most popular markets on the Canary Island. Come across all kinds of knick-knacks that have been made there and then, you're sure to pick up some more authentic souvenirs that point to a real version of what Canarian life is all about opposed to the sugar-coated version. Teror and San Mateo each have their own unique flavour and you'll come across all kinds of bits and bobs to tickle your fancy.

The Gran Canaria day trip goes on for about 6 hours and you are treated to two of the top markets in the terrific towns of Teror and San Mateo. Teror is pretty much a pilgrimage hub and captures the hearts of many with its wonderful old town which houses a listed monument. The town is well-known for its decorated houses which come with wooden balconies to boot. Pop along to the weekly market and float around the stalls which are spread out in the village square and are a stone's throw away from the church. Locals come to sell their fruit and veg, cheese, wines, pastries and a crowd-favourite "Chorizo de Teror" (which is similar to black pudding). Feel the vibe of the lovely village on a tour in Gran Canaria and mosey along to the Basilica and see the patron saint of Gran Canaria,"La Virgen del Pino" if you're up for it.

The Gran Canaria Bus Tour then takes you even deeper into the countryside where you seem to stumble into the sweet village of San Mateo. Go mad for even more hand-made goodies in the market hall. Set your eyes on everything from colourful flowers, honey, cheese, dried fruit, veg and plenty more. Canarian dances and songs are performed by local groups and you get a real insight into what the islands are all about. Tuck into the Canarian culture in its rawest form!

Nice markets

Really interesting and worthwhile markets sometimes to visit in other countries. So who is interested in a bit of tradition should try it out.
