Detailed description

Cycle through Athens' historic streets on a guided city tour and go on a sightseeing tour

Take a leisurely bike tour through Athens. The city tour shows you the most beautiful places in Greece's capital. A certified guide accompanies the 4-hour tour and knows a lot about the city, its history and the Athenians. Once you arrive at the meeting point, you will receive a short safety briefing and off you go. As you drive through the colourful and lively streets of Athens and let the Greek flair take hold of you, you will pass places steeped in history. You will stop over and over again to look around and capture the sights with your camera. You ride your trekking bikes through the centre and reach the famous Constitutional Square, also known as Syntagma Square, where the imposing Parliament building is located. In former times it was the king's palace, today the Greek parliament resides here. There a tomb of an unknown soldier was erected, which is guarded around the clock by the Greek guard. The changing of the guard is a popular tourist attraction. The historic Hotel Grande Bretagne is also located on Constitutional Square. The luxury hostel opened its doors in 1874.

During the city tour through Athens, you cycle comfortably on to the nearby Royal Garden, which has been called the National Garden since the end of the monarchy. The wonderfully landscaped park is popular with locals and tourists alike and forms a green oasis in the heart of the metropolis. You continue to Zappeion and the stadium. The multifunctional building Zappeion, inaugurated in 1888, is located on the edge of the city centre and serves as a venue for events. The classicist building has a spectacular courtyard. Politicians also used the building for important conferences and congresses. Greece's accession to the European Community was signed here in 1979.  The impressive Panathinaiko Stadium, whose grandstands can seat more than 50,000 people, was the venue of the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896.

If you go on a sightseeing tour in Athens, there is of course one thing not to be missed: the upper city of Athens, called the "Acropolis", which sits enthroned on the "Holy Hill". There is the Acropolis Museum and the Parthenon, among others. The fascinating complex on the castle hill is the highlight of every city tour in Athens and from here you have a breathtaking view over the capital. With the bike you continue through the two worth seeing districts of Monastiraki and Plaka, through whose charming streets you will cycle. In the end, the guide of the city tour in Athens will take you optionally to a typical locality popular with the locals and you can taste traditional dishes in the form of finger food and Greek wine (not included in the price). Experience a relaxed city tour in Athens, which shows you the city by bike and from the perspective of a local, and as a crowning conclusion, immerse yourself in the culinary world of the Athenians.

Discover the Greek metropolis on pedals ...

I had the idea last year. At that time, however, I booked an e-bike tour. Unfortunately, the batteries were empty after just under an hour. The tour had to be canceled prematurely. This time everything went well - batteries couldn't fail because there weren't any! The tour is recommended in my opinion.

Sometimes it was a little too fast for us

We largely enjoyed the Athens bike tour. But sometimes we would have liked to stay a little longer in one place. But then we went on ...

Doch dann gings schon weiter…

Ingenious idea: city tour on a bike

In fact, the description didn't promise too much. The bikes were in good shape and the weather was ideal - so the small group (there were only a few) went on a sightseeing tour through the ancient city. I liked it very much, it would have been even better if the tour guide had spoken a little German.

Significantly better than 25 years ago

Many years ago as a student I cycled through Athens. It wasn't a pleasure back then. The motorists ruthlessly out there. How has the city changed since then! Cycling is now much more fun (not in all places yet, but in many).
