  • Hiking time: 5 hours, at all about 8-9 hours on foot

Option 2: Moderate walk "Teide light"

Start your Teide ascent with a nice, 2 hours long walk through the national park, where you can admire the volcanic formations and explore the flora and fauna of the Teide. Subsequently, the cable car will bring you up to 3,555 m height. There you'll continue the walk up to 200 m before the peak. Get delighted by the impressive views and finish the walking tour by going back by cable car.

  • Hiking time: 5 hours

Detailed description

Teide hike on Tenerife - on 2 routes to the volcano summit

Anyone who gets to Teide has a palpitations. Not only because of the effort during the ascent, but also because of the exciting scenery. Almost at the height of the clouds the view opens up into a volcanic landscape that is both bizarre and beautiful. Experience a Teide hike on Tenerife and climb the summit region of Spain's highest elevation alongside an experienced guide. The demanding Teide hiking tour starts at an altitude of 2,200 metres and leads along the temperate Montaña Blanca Trail. You have to be careful and sure-footed when you reach the zone with pumice-stone scree after a good 1.5 hours and then make your way over quite steep serpentines to the Altavista mountain hut. From there the last few metres lead up to the cable car station (3,555 m).

At this point you will meet the participants of the hike "Teide light", who hiked through the national park for about 2 hours and then took the cable car to the top. From the top station both groups walk together to the viewpoint "Pico Viejo". Here you have the opportunity for a breather and for a spectacular view into the volcano crater. Further on the horizon, the neighbouring islands of Tenerife appear on a clear day. The Teide hike is of course anything but an insider's tip - basically it is almost essential to climb this mountain on a hiking holiday. Climbing the centre and landmark of the island is literally the highlight of your holiday in Tenerife. As sublime as the summit towers above everything else, so sublime is the feeling of standing on top and looking over this wonderful landscape.

The Teide hike on Tenerife is a day trip. Please prepare yourself well for this tour of several hours: besides robust footwear, which will carry you safely over scree and volcanic ash, a good sun protection is essential. It is also advisable to bring warm clothing for the higher altitudes. On the mountain it can get cold and windy. Children can basically take part in both tours, but the "Teide light" hike is recommended especially for small children.
