Detailed description

Riding on Tenerife - Horse treks through pine forest and volcanic terrain around Mount Teide

Experience the magnificent surroundings of the summit of Mount Teide in the northwest of the island on the back of a lovely horse and discover some of the volcanic island’s treasures. Riding on Tenerife means getting to know new terrain, endless expanses and a breath-taking natural backdrop. You are in the best hands for this adventure with the experienced guides and instructors from the stable - whether you want to spend a riding holiday on Tenerife or have just discovered riding for yourself. A day trip on horseback is a good decision. You will enjoy riding on Tenerife if you are looking for an intensive experience of nature. Far away from the usual tourist routes, a unique and varied landscape welcomes you on horseback rides through the pine forest and volcanic terrain around Mount Teide.

The rides through Tenerife's natural environment, some of which last several hours, start in the mountain village of Icod de los Vinos, which is most famous for its thousand-year-old dragon tree and the view of Mount Teide. Spain's highest peak will be a faithful companion on some of the trail rides. The 1.5-hour taster ride into the closer surroundings of Icod de los Vinos is mainly recommended for non-riders and beginners. You can gain your first experience on horseback on a quiet trail at the edge of the field. Like all riding excursions, the riding lesson begins with cleaning and saddling the horses (Andalusian and Arabian crosses), which live here in a social herd. With a stick size between 1.36 and 1.70, there is a horse suitable for every rider. A simple riding style with comfortable saddles and bitless bridles is used at the stable.

Particular attention is paid to the safety and wellbeing of the horses and riders during the riding excursions on Tenerife. This familiarisation therefore includes a thorough briefing and a short trial ride on site. This means that you can prepare yourself for the riding trip and become familiar with your horse. One of the most beautiful rides on Tenerife is the 7-hour trek to the black volcano at more than 1,000 metres above sea level with constantly changing landscapes, over red and black earth, through valleys and with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

great ride

Went on the Lomo cuchillo ride with my girlfriend. Beautiful scenery and well-trained horses. Great for beginners like us. Guide was professional but pick-up wasn't included, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, a lovely experience in Tenerife.

Great experience with excellent organisation

Although the riding centre is somewhat remote on the hilltop of the village of Cruz del Camino, it can be reached via a paved road. The farm is run in German, but English and Spanish are also spoken. You can familiarise yourself with the horse at the farm before the ride. As I am already an advanced rider, it was possible to ride in all three gaits. The duration of the ride, 3.5 hours, was completely sufficient for me and the group size with 2 riders + riding instructor was ideal. I can only recommend the farm.
