Detailed description

Tenerife wine tour around El Sauzal with visit to Bodegas Monje & eating in the Guachinche

The volcanic rock and a mild climate are the recipe for success of the wine cultivation on Tenerife. Both factors favour the aroma of the different types of wine. Some of the best wines of the island can only be tasted on the spot. The area around El Sauzal is well known for its long tradition of wine growing. It is a place that sits 300 metres above sea level on the cliffs. However, we start our wine tour in Tenerife with a different programme: a visit to Bodegas Monje. This family business has been producing wine since 1750. We will have a guided tour and a tasting accompanied by the best views of the spectacular north coast.

After this prelude, we continue to the village of El Sauzal. Here we will visit the Casa del Vino museum and learn more about the extraordinary history of viticulture. The museum is housed in a 17th-century estate and is a real gem. Hundreds of well-sorted and lined up wine bottles tell the story of the different grape varieties, the growing areas and the numerous wine cellars in Tenerife. In the bodega there are huge barrels where the wine matures in ideal conditions. There is a tasting room and a shop for wine lovers who want to take home a good drop.

We continue by minibus to one of the famous guachinches. The tradition of these restaurants is closely linked to viticulture. Traders interested in the harvest of the Tenerife wine-growers were always invited for dinner, usually good home cooking. This is still the case today. In the Guachinches, the wine of the house is served with the meal. So we have the pleasure of tasting a different wine in Tenerife. If you book a 6 hour wine tour in El Sauzal, we have another wine tasting at the Casa del Vino.

The North of Tenerife Wine Tour is available from all regions and includes transfers throughout the island. We travel in an air-conditioned minibus with a maximum capacity of 8 people. So it will be a nice wine tour in Tenerife in a small group.
