Detailed description

Tenerife wine tour around El Sauzal with visit to Bodegas Monje & eating in the Guachinche

The volcanic rock and a mild climate are the recipe for success of the wine cultivation on Tenerife. Both factors favour the aroma of the different types of wine. Some of the best wines of the island can only be tasted on the spot. The area around El Sauzal is well known for its long tradition of wine growing. It is a place that sits 300 metres above sea level on the cliffs. However, we start our wine tour in Tenerife with a different programme: a visit to Bodegas Monje. This family business has been producing wine since 1750. We will have a guided tour and a tasting accompanied by the best views of the spectacular north coast.

After this kick-off we continue in our minibus to one of the famous Guachinches. The tradition of these restaurants is closely connected to the cultivation of wine. Merchants who were interested in the harvest of the winegrowers on Tenerife were always invited for dinner, in most cases good home cooking. This is still the case today. In the Guachinches the wine of the house is served with the meal. So we have the pleasure to taste another wine on Tenerife. If you book a 6-hour wine tour around El Sauzal, we will have the starter in one guachinche and the main course in another restaurant, both accompanied by wine.

The last stop of this Tenerife wine tour takes us to the village of El Sauzal. There we will visit the Casa del Vino museum and learn more about the extraordinary history of wine growing. The museum was set up on a 17th century estate and is a veritable treasure trove. Hundreds of well sorted and lined up wine bottles tell here about the different varieties, the growing regions and the many bodegas on Tenerife. In the wine cellar there are huge barrels in which wine matures under ideal conditions. There is a room for tastings and a shop for wine lovers who want to take a good drop home with them. The wine tour through the north of Tenerife is possible from all regions, the transfer is included island wide. We travel in an air-conditioned minibus with a maximum capacity of 8 people. So it will be a pleasant tenerife wine excursion in a small group.
