Detailed description

By boat from the port of Santo Stefano to the island of Giannutri

You are on holiday in Tuscany and want to spend a day in pure nature? Then you should definitely visit the island Giannutri in Italy starting from the peninsula Monte Argentario. It is part of the Tuscan archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea and belongs to the impressive nature reserve. The second smallest island of the 7 archipelagos has a length of 3 km and a width of 500 m and is characterized by a rocky coastline. It is home to tropical plants such as orchids and palm trees. In spring, the fiery red euphorbias bloom, the undergrowth is bright green, surrounded by the cobalt-coloured sea. Enjoy the tranquillity of the island and the scent of the sea on a hike through Tuscany!

On a guided trekking tour you can discover the breathtaking natural beauty of the Italian island of Giannutri. To get to the island, meet your professional guide at a local ferry service in Porto Santo Stefano (Tuscan municipality of Monte Argentario) at 10:00 am. The prices for the crossing to the island by boat are not included in the price, they can be purchased on site at the meeting point: adults 24,00 Euro, 18,00 Euro for children. From the port of Santo Stefano you can start your adventure and let your anticipation run free during the approximately 1-hour boat trip. Around 11:00 am you arrive at the main bay in the east, the Cala dello Spalmatoio, where you welcome the flowers of Delosperma. You hike towards the lighthouse and learn a lot about the beautiful flora and fauna of the surrounding area from your guide while hiking on Giannutri. The incredible palette of bright colours of the vegetation will amaze you as you take your first steps through the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago.  Once at the lighthouse, you can see the rocks of I Grottoni to the west and Punta di Capel Rosso to the east, a privileged place for nesting seagulls. Giannutri is also known as the Island of Seagulls, which you can see for yourself during your one-hour lunch break. Let yourself be inspired by the charm of nature and admire the enchanting landscape between hundreds of seagulls. Please take your own packed lunch with sufficient drinks, as there is no possibility to stop in the nature reserve on Giannutri, except in summer.

After this wonderful nature experience you will return to your ferry at about 4 pm, which will take you back to the starting point in Santo Stefano. A day in the untouched nature of the island of Giannutri will give you pleasure and hiking through Tuscany will be remembered as a great activity.

Hiking tour as we imagine it

Everything was perfect for us, the duration of the hike, the timing and of course the wonderful panorama that lay at our feet! A guide who really knows his stuff, doesn't talk too much and doesn't talk too little. ;)

Hiking in the national park

I love hiking and really enjoyed this tour. The Tuscan landscape and the untouched nature in the national park allow body and soul to breathe freely. The guide could have prepared a little better, but I'm known for asking questions.
