Day trip from Athens to Peloponnese to discover the Doxa Reservoir and the Corinth Canal

The full day excursion from Athens starts in the morning hours and you will be taken in a vehicle to Trikala Corinthias, about 2 hours away. Already the drive through the Mediterranean landscape of Greece is a highlight. To reach the Peloponnese peninsula during the day trip from Athens, you have to cross the artificial Corinth Canal, which connects the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth. The narrow and more than 6 km long canal, built at the end of the 19th century at the isthmus of Corinth to shorten the sea route, saves many ships the circumnavigation of the Peloponnese. It separates the peninsula from the Greek mainland and a total of seven bridges allow it to be crossed.

Part of the day trip from Athens is a bike tour to the Doxa reservoir. This starts in Trikala Korinthias at an altitude of about 1000 m. From there you cycle through the idyllic Peloponnese to the small but fine Lake Doxa, which is 900 m above sea level. The artificial reservoir lies in the middle of the mountains and is surrounded by beautiful green vegetation. From here you have a unique view of the mountains, the pine forests and the lake sparkling in the sun. Above the water lies the charming monastery of Agios Georgios (St. Georg). In the historical walls monks offer traditional sweets made of rose petals. Below the monastery are the chapel of Aghios Fanourios and the ruins of the original monastery on a small peninsula in the heart of the lake. After exploring the area around Lake Doxa by bike and enjoying a snack, continue to a typical tavern where traditional dishes are served in a warm atmosphere. Sit comfortably together with the locals and the other tour participants and enjoy the Greek flair.

After dinner you will start your return journey. You pass through an area where vineyards dominate the landscape until you reach the Corinth Canal again. During the day trip from Athens, all the brave have the opportunity to take a bungee jump (not included in the price) - an unforgettable experience! A tricky start for a bike excursion

Because at almost 1000 meters it is mainly downhill. That makes driving very pleasant. The sights are definitely worth the effort.
