Leaving Funchal we head for São Vicente on the north coast, famous for its vineyards and volcanic caves. We visit one of the most famous waterfalls. On the way to Porto Moniz we pass through Seixal and have the opportunity to admire the black volcanic sand beach. Somewhat hidden in Poças das Lesmas we find amazing lava rocks from one of the last volcanic eruptions (6000 years ago). Next we stop at the natural volcanic pools of Porto Moniz, where you can swim for an hour in the crystal clear waters and enjoy the beautiful scenery that surrounds this incredible place (€3 p.p. not included).

Centuries old trees grow in the heart of the 20 million year old Laurissilva forest. We continue to Paúl da Serra, the largest plateau on the island at almost 1,500 metres, with breathtaking views, where you can have lunch in a typical Madeiran restaurant (not included in the price). Detailed description

4x4 Day Tour from Funchal to Porto Moniz & Fanal

Experience a 4x4 day trip to the north of Madeira and visit the real treasures of this coast. Porto Moniz is a must when exploring the island. The tranquil seaside resort is the most northwestern point of the island and certainly one of the most spectacular. Porto Moniz is best known for its natural lava pools, fed by crystal clear water but protected from the Atlantic waves. A swim here is a must (1 hour in good weather). The landscapes we pass through on this day trip from Funchal are as spectacular as the natural pools. The first stop is the pearl of the island: São Vicente. Vineyards and volcanic caves are the flagship of this municipality. A top destination is the waterfall, which resembles a bridal veil.

On the way to Porto Moniz, we pass through Seixal and have the opportunity to see the black volcanic sand beach. In Fanal, a magical place of rare beauty with centuries-old trees in the heart of the Laurissilva forest (the largest in the world), our tour guides will give our guests an insightful explanation of this 20-million-year-old forest. The tour continues to Paúl da Serra, the largest plateau on the island at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres with breathtaking views, where you will have lunch in a typical Madeiran restaurant (not included in the price). The tour then continues to Cabo Girão, one of the highest cliffs in the world (580 metres), known for its floating viewpoint with a glass floor that offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Atlantic.
