Detailed description

Guided Market Tour in Athens: Food and Cultural Treasures

The Greek metropolis has architectural treasures, historical jewels and culinary delights to offer. Those who want to eat well in Athens will find an enormous variety of fresh and tasty ingredients on the small markets. During the guided market tour in Athens, a local guide will take you on a special city tour. Experience food and cultural treasures by sightseeing in the streets of Athens. The tour lasts between 5 and 6 hours and takes place in small groups of up to 12 people. You will be met at the meeting point and then off you go to the various markets in Athens. You will be immersed in the lifestyle of the Athenians, who like to eat and are proud of local products.

A highlight of the tour through the Athenian markets is the Monastiraki Square, in the middle of which is the emblematic Pantanassa Monastery. Here we have time to take a close look at some of the striking buildings. For example the Hadrian's Library, an archaic temple in Corinthian style. Not far away is the 18th century Tzistarakis Mosque, now a ceramics museum. We go through the flea market, where we meet with friendly traders and browse your offer. Monastiraki Square is also the right place to learn more about the history of Athens.

The market tour Athens takes us to the charming area of Thisson and through one of the oldest quarters of Athens, Plaka. There we relax with a freshly brewed coffee and talk about the past and present of the city. In Exarheia, a very cool and vibrant area of Athens, we will finish off by tasting sweet dishes and visiting some of the hip vintage shops. With good tips and a farewell, the market tour ends in Athens.

I could feel positive energy

The city really has some interesting corners to offer. Our guide is actually someone who knows the city inside out and so we were taken to places that a tourist would probably never get to without a guide. I liked it completely.

Cultural tour in real time

Filling and amazement. Athena shows her friendly city face. However - folks, let me tell you - Exarcheia is no longer what it used to be. Some corners have turned into tourist traps. Overall grade: good +

Kultur-Tour in Echtzeit

Spachteln & Staunen. Athena zeigt ihr freundliches Stadtgesicht. Allerdings – Leute lasst es Euch gesagt sein – Exarcheia ist nicht mehr das, was es mal war. Einige Ecken echt zu Touri-Fallen verkommen. Gesamtnote: Gut+

It was going too fast for us

There were so many new impressions and interesting corners that we couldn't record everything. The lack of sights and stops would have been enough for us. But that is probably a matter of taste.
