Detailed description

Weave through the greenery and explore Nun's Valley in Madeira on a 3-hour bus tour

Madeira is part of a volcanic archipelago which means breath-taking scenery is a given on the Portuguese island. The terrain is notably mountainous with a medium to high mountain range teamed with valleys. The locals are big on agriculture and mostly live off what they grow. You head straight to the cultural honey pot in Madeira when you ride along on the bus to Nun's Valley.

There is an area up above where all the hotels are based in Funchai that is absolutely covered in trees and we'll stop off there for a bit as the first stop-off. From there, we follow the narrow, winding road which weaves right through the mountains which offers more panoramic views than you can shake a stick at. The Madeira bus tour goes right through a forest of eucalyptus trees up to Eira do Serrado where the pretty peaks are practically dancing from all around. Curral das Freiras can also be seen from up there. The Curral das Feiras in Madeira is a horseshoe-shaped valley surrounded by steep slopes cutting into the jagged summits of Madeira. The shape of the valley was first confused with a crater, but it turned out that the local river dug it like that naturally.

Set your eyes on terraced fields where wine, fruit and vegetables are grown on a bus tour to Nun's Valley. Keep your eyes peeled for the stunning array of chestnut trees which are lined up the mountain slopes. The trip to the village "Curral das Freiras" is one-of-a-kind and is one the island's most rural settlements. The lifestyle there is a far cry from what you're used to and is therefore an eye-opener. A natural amphitheatre is what makes Nun's Valley stand out in Madeira but on a bigger scale as well. The village has been around since 1566 and was used as a retreat from the pirates. The nuns of the Santa Clara monastery in Funchal had nowhere else to run to. Once you've found out more facts and figures, hop back on board the bus and tour back to where you stared out from.
