Detailed description
Sightsee in the stunning Sao Vicente Caves in North-East Madeira
Madeira is a Portuguese island that is part of a volcanic archipelago to the south west of Portugal. Madeira gets a nice breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira is better known as the Flower Island because it is full to the brim with flora and fauna in an amazing array of colours. Go underground and get to see Madeira from a different perspective. The various volcanic explosions left behind a 700-metre underground lava tunnel as a cave near Sao Vicente. Finish up the cave tour in Madeira close to the Volcanic Centre where you get loads of facts and figures about the volcanic history.
The tour then goes on to see more of the island where there are lots of scenic gems to discover. Visit the Bom Jesus Church which is based in the wooded mountain slopes in Ponta Delgada - a traditional fishing village. Follow the mountain roads along to Sao Jorge. The locals' vineyards and farms are mostly found around Arco de Sao Jorge. Get brilliant views from Madeira across to Porto Moniz from Cabana's vantage point.
The full-day tour in Madeira makes its way through a bunch of villages like Santana and Faial and Porto do Cruz. Santana is stacked with thatched triangular buildings which are typical in Madeira. Faial has an awesome sea-water swimming pool and a rocky beach. Porto do Cruz is home to the rock of Penha d' Aguia which is home to the only sugar factory in Madeira. The 320m-high peak "Pico do Facho" is on the eastern side of Machico Bay and points back to a time where pirates were invading (or trying to). Last but not least move on to the easternmost point of Madeira: Ponta de São Lourenço where the climate and vegetation is a lot closer to Porto Santo. This bus tour in Madeira gives you an underground experience with a Sao Vicente cave visit and get to see the lush landscapes in the North-East of the island.
