Detailed description
Porto walking tour: Explore the city centre together with a local guide
In Porto the walking tour shows you the historical centre and the old town with all its facets and historical buildings. Sightseeing from an insider's point of view – that's what awaits you on this tour, because a local guide is always at your side. Ask the guide for insider tips. Check out the favourite places of the locals to experience Porto as authentically as possible. See the most beautiful corners, the most famous buildings and experience the unique architecture, with artfully decorated buildings that can be found everywhere in the Portuguese metropolis. Discover the real Porto and its sights!
The Porto city tour starts near the famous avenue "Avenida dos Aliados". Near the famous promenade in the city centre are many of the famous buildings of the city. You will visit the church "Igreja dos Carmelitas" and the neighbouring "Igreja Carmo", two buildings that could not be more different. One simple, the other artfully decorated, but both have their own charm. Next stop is the bookstore "Livraria Lello" to which you only have to walk a few meters. It is said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in Europe and the world. From the outside you can hardly imagine the impressive appearance of the building inside. Hardly any visitor can hide his delight when the wooden interior and the seemingly empty bookshelves spread out in front of him. The stately curved wooden staircase and the artistically designed windows add to the special flair of the bookkeeping.
The walking tour Porto takes you to the famous baroque church "Igreja dos Clérigos", whose 75 meter high tower offers a fantastic view over the city. The tower of the church (Torre dos Clérigos) is one of the landmarks of Porto and can be climbed over 240 steps. Afterwards you will visit another church, the interesting building of the Porto São Bento railway station and the old Ferreira Borges market hall. In between you will have a little break and you will have some time to eat or drink something or just stroll through the street.
Step by step, you will get closer to the banks of the Douro, where the charming old quarter is located. The simple but often colourfully painted houses create a delightful ambience in the streets of the district, which has already been declared a World Heritage Site. The picturesque narrow streets of the old town are terraced and connected by stairs. Two further highlights of the Porto walking tour are the Café Majestic and the market hall Bolhão. Go on a sightseeing tour in Porto and discover more than others! The best way to discover the city is with a local guide at your side.
