Dolphin Tour by boat in the Algarve
Go cruising through the crystal-clear blue waters in a comfy RIB (rigid-inflatable boat) and go on the experience of a lifetime watching dolphin. As well as that, set your eyes on turtles and sea birds. Discover the Algarve coast and its marvellous marine life with your nature guide at your side.
The dolphin watching boat trip takes around two hours and sets off from Faro. Kick things off from there and before you know it you’re zooming down the stunning Ria Formosa which is a highlight in Portugal and attracts a lot of interest. Go past Cabo de Santa Maria – the southernmost point in Portugal and end up about 5 miles out at sea.
You cast your eyes on different dolphin species on the Algarve boat tour like the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) and the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). The sea birds can be seen throughout the tour, the most popular are common gannets (Morus bassanus), black-headed gulls (Larus melanocephalus) and some petrel species. Seagulls are always about, especially when fishing boats are nearby. Keep your eyes peeled and spot other animals such as sea turtles, moon fish (Mola mola), sharks and occasionally other species of whales such as the common porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and the minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata).
