Detailed description

So beautiful is the Basque Country - wonderful Land Rover tour through the Spanish nature park and the French border region

It's almost impossible to discover the many facets of this indescribably beautiful region on the Atlantic coast within one day. But if you want to see as much of the city and the country as possible during your holiday in Spain, this Land Rover tour in the Basque Country is in good hands. With the safari through the impressive Peñas de Aya Nature Park you will not only move through one of the most important protected areas, but also through a wonderful piece of Spain. Green, powerful and full of traditions, some of which you will get to know on this excursion thanks to your local and experienced tour guide. The 4.5-hour Basque Country Tour starts in the afternoon in the tasteful cultural metropolis of San Sebastian with its enviable beach location and cultivated appearance. From there it goes directly to the entrance gate of the nature park, which extends over almost 7000 hectares and has a very characteristic profile with its three mountain peaks.

At the viewpoint of Puerto Arlaitz we will make a first photo stop so that you can enjoy the panorama. From up there you enjoy a fantastic view over large parts of the nature park, the river Bidasoa and the neighbouring communities. Among others to the two border towns Hondarribia (Spanish side) and Hendaye (French side), which will still be the destination of this Basque Country Tour. But first we go to a plateau that reveals a view of the magnificent Peñas de Aya mountain. With a height of more than 800 metres, this landmark has a stately appearance. From there we cross the park towards Irún, the last town before the French border. The first route point in the French part of the Basque Country is the historic and wonderfully situated seaside resort of Hendaye. Here you will find a three kilometre long sandy beach with a fantastic coastal panorama in the background. Later we are impressed by impressive cliffs along the coastal road, which lie on the way to another tour highlight: the beautiful village of San Juan de Luz. Here we take our time to look at the boulevards, the promenade or boutiques and in any case to taste a typical Basque cherry cake.

A short walk in the evening light takes us to one of the two lighthouses by the sea and opens the view to the Bay of Biscay, the Peñas de Aya and the French Pyrenees. In good weather we experience the play of light in the sky and enjoy the ambience in this enchanting place before we set off for the return journey to San Sebastian. If you plan this tour in a private circle, you can also book the Land Rover with tour guide for yourself and secure an exclusive sightseeing trip through the Basque Country.
