Detailed description

Enjoy a maritime experience at the Lanzarote Aquarium in Costa Teguise

Lanzarote is the northernmost of the main islands in the archipelago that makes up the Canary Islands. The volcanic island, which is warm and mostly dry all year round, offers impressive wide black stone deserts and shimmering slopes made up of red and yellow rock. The effect of the sunlight sometimes makes it look like the volcanic stones are on fire. In fact, the Fire Mountains can be found in the Timanfaya National Park, which has the highest density of the island's most recently active volcanoes. The whole of the archipelago of the Canary Islands was formed by volcanic activity. The constant trade wind provides suitable cooling and humidity, so that there is still life that has adapted to the conditions on the island to discover.

The Atlantic Ocean that surrounds the Canary Islands is much livelier. You can see some amazing examples of its inhabitants in the aquarium on Lanzarote in Costa Teguise. With more than one million litres of water in 33 tanks, this aquarium is one of the largest on the Canary Islands. Here you can see typical species from the waters around the Canary Islands, such as moray eels, sargo bream or fulas, but also tropical species with a wide range of striking colours such as clownfish, anemones or puffer fish. You will be able to see some of the impressive predators that live in the ocean. Amongst its other specimens, the largest aquarium on the Canary Islands on Lanzarote in Costa Teguise is also home to a nurse shark that is 1.8 metres long. Anyone who is feeling particularly brave can go for a dive with this impressive animal. With this ticket, however, can join the extensive tour, which gets you closer to hundreds of lively and colourful species of fish in 33 aquariums. These also include species that are typical of the Canary Islands, such as tiger fish, gilt-head bream or monk fish.

The highlights include the underwater tunnel beneath the pool that contains the predators and the petting pool, where you can touch some nice and harmless specimens like sea cucumbers and starfish and get to know them better. The tour takes about an hour, but you can stay all day until the aquarium closes, because the tickets for the aquarium are valid regardless of the tour, so you can have the opportunity to satisfy your curiosity and find answers to every question without being pushed for time. Your trip through the underwater world of the Canary Islands in the aquarium near Costa Teguise on Lanzarote will definitely be educational and fascinating!
