Detailed description

A guided safari through the centre of the beautiful island of Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is an island with many facets and changing landscapes. Nowhere is this more evident than in the centre of the island, which has a bit of everything: exciting coastlines, imposing mountain ranges, green valleys, historic towns. You get to know this enchanting world on the Fuerteventura minibus safari. The full-day excursion with a guide takes about 8 hours and includes a typical Canary Island lunch and numerous stops so you can take pictures and admire the view. The tour starts in the morning when you get picked up from your hotel. One of the first stops is the fishing village of Ajuy on the west coast. This picturesque village is best known for its unique limestone cliffs along the coast. This is a conservation area. The Caleta Negra, the Black Bay, can also be found on this side of the island.

From the west coast we head through Pajara to the interior of the island. Windy roads lead uphill and downhill to the valley that is surrounded by rocks and its white houses, palm trees and agriculture. After Pajara we head back up into the mountains and on to Betancuria. Many people consider this town to be one of the most beautiful on Fuerteventura. Historically it is definitely one of the most important towns anywhere on the Canary Islands, as the island used to be run from here for many years. The well-kept appearance and the large number of listed buildings still bear witness to this today. Even just driving into the town is fantastic.

The restored windmill is one of the landmarks of Valles de Ortega. It is a testimony to the past, when the farmers here in the centre of the island were still working the fields and lived from what they grew. Only a small part of this tradition has been preserved. But today this traditional settlement is an insider tip for good food on Fuerteventura. And this is where we stop for lunch. As well as the starter of soup of the day, the menu includes a main course of fish, chicken or pork with potatoes and mojo, which is a typical Canary Island sauce. After this refreshment we start the last stage of the Fuerteventura minibus safari. This will take you to an aloe vera farm, where you will learn more about how this natural resource is produced and processed.

The plan is to stop at Fuerteventura's most beautiful lighthouse on the way back to Costa Calma: the Faro de la Entallada. In a secluded location on the coast, with impressive architecture and standing 12 metres high, this is really worth a visit while you're on Fuerteventura. Another reason is that you can see for miles and enjoy a fabulous view of the coast all around you. This beautiful panorama is also the final stop on the minibus safari around Fuerteventura. You will be driven back to your hotel with some great memories of new discoveries you have made on Fuerteventura.
