The Padi diving course starts with the theory before you get in the water. This includes a comprehensive briefing on how to use the diving equipment. You will sort out your equipment under supervision. During the course you will learn how to equalise your ears, how to breathe underwater and how to communicate. Then you will put your wetsuit on and make your way to the beach. The first thing you will practise in the water is your breathing. Once you are familiar with this, you will be given your fins and a diver’s mask. The instructor will take you down to a depth of 2 metres, where you will repeat some of the exercises from the briefing. This is followed by the first dive at a depth of about 6 meters, where you will again be asked to demonstrate some of your newly acquired skills. Once you’re back on dry land, you’re nearly finished. A theoretical section has been designed to test the knowledge you have acquired. If you can answer these questions correctly, you will be given a certificate for your ‘PADI discover scuba diving course’.

The world of diving starts here: scuba diving on Gran Canaria. You can find out how fascinating the underwater world of the Canary Islands is during a PADI diving course in the south of the island, and whether you like this water sport. The intensive 3-hour course will introduce you to all of the basics you need for your first open water dive. You will take your first steps underwater in the company of an experienced diving instructor. You will learn how to assemble your diving equipment, how to communicate during a dive and how to breathe. Safety is the top priority when you go scuba diving on Gran Canaria. Your guide will be looking after no more than 2 students and will respond to your needs. You will not be made to do anything you don't want to do.

The PADI diving course takes place in a certified diving school in Arguineguín in the south of the island. The diving centre on Gran Canaria is located right next to Anfi Beach, which is one of the most popular beaches thanks to its tropical scenery. The sea off Arguineguín is a perfect location for beginners as it offers the best conditions for first-time divers. You will start by completing the theoretical part of your PADI diving course. This includes a few exercises that your instructor will run through with you before you put on your wetsuit and get into the water together. There you can feel your way down to deeper water at your own pace.
