Detailed description

Diving for the first time in Gran Canaria - from Arinaga to the first expedition under the surface of water

Explore the wonderful underwater world of the Arinaga Marine Reserve during your first dive on Gran Canaria. It is located off the sunny south coast of the island and is one of the best areas for learning to dive as a beginner on Gran Canaria. You can take your first swims in fantastic surroundings under the surface of the sea starting from Arinaga. The beginner’s course that lasts between 4 and 5 hours starts with a detailed introduction to diving. In this theory session you will learn more about the basics of this water sport and what to expect on this half-day excursion. You will finally put on your equipment in the company of a professional instructor and take your first steps in the diving school’s pool to get a feel for breathing underwater and learn what to look out for. Once you feel safe and ready for the next adventure, you will then be taken to one of the most beautiful dive sites on Gran Canaria.

There are a few of these around the Atlantic island. Warm water, visibility to great depths and a variety of flora and fauna are some of the best features of diving on the island. The area around the beach of El Cabrón is one of the most famous diving areas and it is appreciated by divers worldwide, in particular because of its fish stocks. Maritime life at the foot of the inactive volcano of Arinaga is characterised by an almost tropical diversity of species and some interesting scenery, which is dominated by a stone slab at a depth of 12 metres. Numerous species of fish flit around this geological heritage, moving leisurely in groups or shooting from caves and grottos. Groupers, barracudas, trumpet fish, angel sharks and many other interesting species are some of the inhabitants of this marine reserve. You can follow some interesting diving routes through this remarkable area of sea, which has been placed under protection by UNESCO and is well looked after. A dive in the Marine Reserve is one of the most important experiences for divers on Gran Canaria. You can enjoy the feeling of weightlessness and swim with the fish against this unique backdrop.

You will set out on a small expedition into this enchanting world as you go diving off Gran Canaria. You will embark on a spectacular dive at a depth of up to 5 metres with your instructor at your side. You will be given the opportunity and plenty of time to get your bearings, to take in your first underwater encounter and to enjoy everything you can see there. Diving of Gran Canaria is a sport you can enjoy for almost the whole of the year. Even in the winter months, the average water temperature is 18 degrees. The island owes this luxury mainly to the Gulf Stream, which the underwater flora and fauna also use to get around.

I have never been so close to animals

As a beginner, I was still a bit skeptical to really try the diving but when I did it I was very happy. Everybody should have had this experience!
