Detailed description

Hike to the Almond Blossom in Tenerife - magnificent flowers around Santiago del Teide

In January and February thousands of almond trees transform Tenerife into a sea of flowers and offer a wonderful natural spectacle. The delicate blossoms are best shown off during a hike to the almond blossom. Follow the gentle scent and the wonderful contrasts of pink flowers and the black lava roads on the volcanic island. Especially Santiago del Teide in the northwest is known for its many almond trees. They grow in the valleys around the village and offer a unique spectacle when the almond trees blossom. In addition to almond festivals, many hikes to the almond tree blossom are organized on Tenerife.

We follow our flowering route through the zone between Santiago del Teide and Chico. Our route measures about 6 kilometres and is easy to walk for people of all ages. We will have the opportunity to walk through the unique landscape west of the Teide National Park and enjoy the almond tree blossoms. The almond tree blossom on Tenerife starts in January depending on the intensity of the winter and continues in parts until March. Thanks to the geographical location of the Canary Islands, the almond trees of Tenerife are the first in Europe to herald spring with their beautiful blossom. And the trees that once came to the island from Central Asia are not just an adornment for the landscape. The almond fruit is processed in many ways - it is often used in the cuisine of Tenerife.

Our hike to the almond tree blossom on Tenerife starts with the pickup from the south. From there we drive together to the starting point of our hike. Depending on the weather and the progress of the blossoms we follow one of the routes between Santiago del Teide and Chico. After the approximately 3-hour hike we return to the starting point.
