Detailed description

Hike to the almond tree blossom on Tenerife

In January and February, thousands of almond trees transform Tenerife into a sea of blossom and offer a wonderful natural spectacle. The delicate blossoms are best appreciated on a hike along the lush almond tree plantations. Follow the delicate scent and the wonderful contrasts of pink flowers and black lava roads on the volcanic island. Santiago del Teide in the north-west in particular is known for its many almond trees. They grow in the valleys around the village and offer a unique spectacle when the almond trees are in bloom. In addition to almond festivals, many hikes are also organised during the almond tree blossom in Tenerife. We follow our blossom route through the area between Santiago del Teide and Chico.

Our route measures around 11 kilometres and is easy to walk for people of all ages. We will have the opportunity to walk through the unique landscape to the west of the Teide National Park and enjoy the almond tree blossom. Depending on the intensity of the winter, the almond tree blossom on Tenerife begins in January and lasts in parts until March. Thanks to the geographical location of the Canary Islands, the almond trees on Tenerife are the first in Europe to herald the arrival of spring with their beautiful blossom. And the trees, which once came to the island from Central Asia, are not just an ornamental feature of the landscape. The almond fruit is processed in many different ways - it is often used in Tenerife's cuisine.

Our hike to the almond tree blossom on Tenerife starts with a pick-up from the south. From there we drive together to the starting point of our hike. Depending on the weather and the progress of the blossom, we will follow one of the routes between Santiago del Teide and Chico. After the approximately 4-hour hike, we return to the starting point.
