All market halls and weekly markets in Tenerife

The markets held in many of the island towns are a popular destination for excursions in Tenerife. Among the markets there are many farmers' markets where you can buy fresh food such as fruit, vegetables, fish and meat. As there is little regional cultivation in Tenerife, most food is imported from abroad. Nevertheless, at the weekly markets on Tenerife you will find typical Canarian food such as cheese and meat from goats, exotic fruits such as bananas, spices or various kinds of fish such as bream, sardines or perch.

Above all, the traders in the markets also sell authentic products handmade in the Canary Islands - pottery, embroidery or folkloric clothing and accessories.

We introduce you to the most popular farm, tourist and weekly markets in Tenerife.

In Tacoronte you will find fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and jams at the Mercadillo del Agricultor. It is worth coming early, because even if the market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends, many stalls close already at noon. This is true for most of the farmers' and weekly markets, which can be found in almost every village like Tegueste, Güimar, El Medano or La Orotava.

But if you get there in time, you will find fresh seasonal and regional products at the busy little farmers' markets. At many markets, such as the "Mercadillo" in La Orotava, the farmers also offer authentic Canarian handicrafts.

In addition to the farmers' markets, which usually take place at weekends, Tenerife also has market halls in La Laguna and Santa Cruz, which are open during the week. In the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África (daily until 2:30 pm) in Santa Cruz as well as in the Mercado Municipal de La Laguna (daily until 2 pm) the offer of fresh, regional food is very varied and relatively cheap.

Special weekly markets in Tenerife

When you could not find a souvenir at the farm and weekly markets in Tenerife, you will certainly find an original present at a flea and antiques market. The biggest of its kind takes place on Sundays from 10 to 14 o'clock in Santa Cruz in the San Sebastián district.

In Los Abrigos you can go shopping for food and handicrafts in a night market. It is held every Tuesday from 18 to 22 hours in the church square of the municipality.

By shopping in the local weekly markets of Tenerife, you are supporting local or regional agriculture in Tenerife. You can get high quality, often regional products at reasonable prices and can also reduce your own costs for food - especially if you are self-sufficient in your holiday home or finca.
