Weekly markets in Tenerife

All market halls and weekly markets on Tenerife at a glance

The weekly markets in many of the island's towns are a popular destination in Tenerife. The markets include many farmers' markets where you can buy fresh food such as fruit, vegetables, fish and meat. As very little is grown locally on Tenerife, most of the food is imported from abroad. Nevertheless, at the weekly markets on Tenerife you will find typical Canarian foods such as cheese and meat from goats, exotic fruit varieties such as bananas, spices or various types of fish such as bream, sardines or perch.

Above all, the traders at the markets also sell authentic products made by hand on the Canary Islands - pottery, embroidery or folkloric clothing and accessories.

We present the most popular farmers', tourist and weekly markets on Tenerife.

In Tacoronte, you can find fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and jams at the Mercadillo del Agricultor. It's worth coming early, because even though the market is open from 8 am to 2 pm at weekends, many stalls close at lunchtime. This applies to most farmers' and weekly markets, which can be found in almost every town such as Tegueste, Güimar, El Medano or La Orotava.

However, if you arrive early enough, you will find fresh, seasonal and regional produce at the bustling, small farmers' markets. At many markets, such as the "Mercadillo" in La Orotava, the farmers also offer authentic Canarian handicrafts.

In addition to the farmers' markets, which usually take place at the weekend, there are also indoor markets in La Laguna and Santa Cruz on Tenerife that are open during the week. The Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África (daily until 2.30 pm) in Santa Cruz and the Mercado Municipal de La Laguna (daily until 2 pm) offer a wide range of fresh, regional produce at relatively favourable prices.
